    All true.

    My idea is for QUAKECON.

I think we are talking about 2 different things here. I don't think under any circumstance would we want to run "the whole BYOC" that implies setting up the NOC, running all the lines, setting the tables, etc., etc., etc.

I do think what we are talking about - and what is very doable - would be providing, managing and running servers on the NOC for the non-Quake BYOC Tournaments and general game play in non-quake games. We should focus on what we do well - running servers for and managing the games we play.

What we would like to see from QuakeCon in this regard would be extra BYOC slots for the servers, special seating, recognition in promo materials and website, clearance to project info on the walls, make announcements over the P.A., special recognition for our BYOC tournament sponsors, etc.
Agreed, but we still need the giggly jiggilies

Re: Idea for next year - "try a game with teamplayers"

    I've got a question.

If we do get the chance to run more servers in the BYOC. And we do admin them. Would we force all the servers to be ran the way we play? Because not everyone, of course doesn't play the games they way we play and they have the choice not to join our pub servers. So my question is, would we enforce our rules on all the servers? Or would we allow some servers to be ran they way we play and some for the non-ttp people who don't like the way we play.

Now I know it's our point to get people to teamplay but we can not make them be teamplayers. This question might be a little too early.

So the nature of the BYOC is that:
    1) It's a free-for-all LAN fest
    2) There are some tournaments going on in the background fri/sat

So per (1), anyone is freely able to put up servers any time they want, and anyone is freely able to join whatever servers they want to join. TTP can simply have dedicated servers running on the lan, and people can choose whether they want to join them or not. They are not tourney servers, just normal servers, and because of that, we're allowed to run them any way we want including have our admin staff be present as admins. If people want to joke around, they're free to start their own server on the LAN and do that.

In addition to the servers for (1), we'll have official "tournament servers" to satisfy (2).

That sums it up very well.

We will keep our servers full by actively meeting and greeting new people there and inviting them to play.

I wouldn't mind donating for this cause. I hosted a few TTP servers this year and kind of thought that maybe I shouldn't have. Sure we were getting our name out, but nobody was really there to administer those servers and there were too many ass hats. I am afraid the people at the con might have seen those TTP servers as "just another pub." If we had some sort of experience where people could really PLAY the game then they might find a home here.

People were letting others play on their machines and not everyone is an admin in games so some people like me didn't know admin.
