Thread: BF2142 Reserve Slot Request

I would like to request a reserved slot for BF2142.

b) I fully understand the rules of TTP and accept the raised standard expected of a reserved player.

c) I want to request 6 months on the BF2142 server.

d) I understand this is only a donation and that no money will be refunded.

I came home one day from my girlfriend's place to have my brother announce to me that he'd purchased Left 4 Dead 1 & 2 in a Steam sale. I shrugged and said "Okay whatever, I'm not that interested in online gaming" - I'm more into the stories and whathaveyou than being told my mother is a whore by 11 year olds from Australia. (Personal Information: Call of Duty and its ilk has shattered my faith in the gaming world immeasurably)

That said, there was temptation - there was curiosity (and we know what they say about the latter). Some months prior to this I had been cruising around on Facebook when a picture (I'm sure most of you have seen it) popped up showing a screenshot from a hitherto unknown First Person Shooter (N.B. as far as I was concerned), showing the character standing up on a table while the floor was littered with creepy looking women. The caption "Oh fuck oh fuck oh fuck oh fuck oh fuck oh fuck" rounded it off, and I couldn't but show the image to a friend and asked him what the Hell this game was, and why was the appearance of a few girls with glowing eyes such a problem? (Oh, haha, how I laugh now...)

"Oh, that must be Left 4 Dead," he informed me casually, "those glowey-eyed things are Witches."

"Witches?" I ask. I'm a Metalhead by nature, born into that elite section of society that only knows what a witch is from Black Sabbath and Candlemass songs. "That guy we knew in school, he was a Wiccan...right?"

"Yeah...these Witches aren't like that."

Ever eager to learn, I promptly fell upon the Googlemachine like a Bat outa' Hell, stumbling quickly onto the Left 4 Dead Wiki article of the Witch. I was sucked in, enthralled, amazed; I wanted to see more.

So, despite my initial misgivings about a game SOLELY designed for online play, one afternoon I found myself loading up "The Parish - Cemetery" map on a singleplayer game just to see what these Witches were like. I found my first Witch as I rounded a corner, covered in gore and grime, where I found her in the living room of a small house, weeping her big yellow eyes out. I moved in too fast, she took offence to my presence and...

...it was game over.

"Okay," I thought to myself, "that's cool and the crying is really creepy I guess. Very good," and I proceeded to return to doing whatever it was I did with my life before the infection took over. (See what I did there? Referring to L4D as an infection? You know, because the zombies...? And the flu...? Oh, never mind.)

See, in reading the wiki article about the Witch I had learned of the Sugar Mill map - a map so chock-a-block with Witchery, it said, that the sound of their crying ACTUALLY glitched, because there were so damn many of them crying at any one time. This, I decided, was something I had to see. But at the same time...as I mentioned previously...I'm a stickler for nice epic stories and stuff in games. So instead of this randomly waltzing up to the level, all out of context and such, why not play from the very start and work my way up to it? So, I decided, before treating myself to the Sugar Mill level, I would play through the entire game up to that point. And by God, I didn't know then that I was in for a RIDE.

Needless to say, by the time I finally DID get to the Sugar Mill the notion of "I'll just play this to see a witch and then stop" was well and truly out the window. I was in love; I'd been infected (you see? It's because the zombies get sick and then...you know what, just forget it), I'd fallen in love with ANOTHER Valve game.

I've been playing now for just over a week or so, I reckon, so I'm what most of you guys would probably refer to as a n00b, but, that's where I draw the line - I REFUSE to play "competitively" like those who refer to CoD as a "sport" and who scream and curse at everyone who kills them and claims they are using "hacks." God damn those people to Hell. I'm playing this game for my own enjoyment (which, surely, is what a videogame is meant to be?), which is to say I'm easy going in terms of...well, everything. If someone wants to play on Expert and get us all killed 'cos none of us know what we're doing, well, that's cool. The journey is what matters moreso than the destination.

For the record, I have fallen head over heels in love with the Realism Versus mode, I'm really really enjoying it (as does my little sister, who sits by my side and watches me play). I'm looking forwards to being on these forums and meeting fellow people who are as crazed as I am with this game! ^^

Hate to invite you only to shuttle you off somewhere else, but MOST of the players here are console players. Whereas, being a fan of realism vs, you'll find that there are quite a lot of those over at TeamPlayer Gaming - The Front Page. That is our big sister site and I would say 99% of our players are PC players, and all play realism vs.

Head over there and post up. We're considering adding the community Warcelona map now that it's "official" Valve content as well. We usually play one or more games per night during the week and however many happen during the weekend (sometimes more than others).
