Hey I happen to like java.

yes its memory system needs to die in a fire
and pointers need to be able to exist.....

but much like python, I enjoy the forced coding practices inherent to the languages design.

Yup. Did a data structures and algorithms class last semester with python and it was a lot of fun. There was so much being handled behind the scenes that I felt like I was frolicking willy-nilly and I didn't have to worry about anything. Until I went back to doing my real work with C and the honeymoon was over

I would like to play around with rails sometime but I haven't had the time. A few of my coworkers have gotten really into ruby and it looks solid for some of the stuff I'd use python for
