    Game Development Packages

I mentioned blitzbasic in the other thread... People might want to look into that if they are new to game programming (or even if they aren't).

    The Official Blitz Website

Notable games that have been written in blitz? Worms. That was originally written as a blitzbasic entry in Amiga Format magazine. Platypus (really neat side scrolling shooter that used claymation for everything on screen). The Eschalon series of adventure games...

It's really robust enough to create pretty much any 2d game and some 3D stuff (with blitz3d, or blitzmax + opengl or other 3d engine).

It's really been supplanted by Monkey though.

    Monkey X

I played around with some of the unity tutorials recently and I really like the dev environment. It was incredibly easy to change target platforms and the interface makes things cake. The engine only pushes 30fps to my knowledge, which leaves me baffled when I hear about indie devs wanting to do first person titles. At that point there's really no reason to not use UDK unless you're developing it from scratch

They've up'ed it to 60fps, but yeah, bleh. Eh udk takes a percentage of the profits don't they?

Yeah I'm not a big fan of unity. But maybe I just haven't dug into it enough.

Yeah from what I can tell, (haven't done too much research into it) UDK gets you licensed for somewhat cheap, but the royalty percentage scales with your gross earnings for each tier of sales digits.

I have no idea how unity charges for royalties. If it's cheaper then udk and they have the ability to do 60fps, then that just got my attention. I have a couple ideas for a few small titles I was considering unity for - might just have to now
