Good/Bad News
Thanks to the generosity of Illusion - who gave me a motherboard, RAM, and a CPU to fix my computer - I am back up and running.
But, my ISP has connectivity issues. I ping decently enough, more than good enough to game, but I get random DCs and it takes a minute or 2 to restore. I could only make it a couple rounds of CSGO before it happened. They're frequent enough to frustrate the hell out of me.
Sigh...CenturyLink. The common ISP options don't run to where I'm living. We checked.

hmm...you shouldn't be having disconnects like that; I'd call them and see if they can run a line test. Even at the edge of DSL range you shouldn't really have disconnects, just a slower connection. You could help test that by running a ping test(ping x.x.x.x -n 1000) to something outside of your local network and see how many dropped packets you get...compare that to a ping from your PC to your DSL modem...if you have no drops to the modem but drops going out to the internet it's either the house line or something on their end. Either way it should be a correctable issue...even by CenturyLink(which, IMO, is the worst major ISP in the country).
