another player who can't connect...help
hi all,
so today was my first time playing L4D...I started out in campaign, blown away by the action and loving the graphics/sound/atmosphere. So after a few missions I wanted to try coop.
For some reason I can't connect. I get the server has timed out message after 10 tries - it doesn't matter what game type I try whether a lobby or game in progress. I am on PC obviously. I did manage to play one game. Honestly I don't even know how it connected. I chose Online and game in progress one time randomly and blam. But since then I have not been able to repeat so that made me wonder if it is a server or game problem since I got into that one game.
I have tried to connect with no firewall, antivirus or anything on..same result. I have the ports up to 27050 forwarded fwiw. I've searched around via google and forums and can't find an answer. I can see custom games but can't join them, when I choose one it doesn't refresh with any info. In the console I can see players connecting in green, when we are trasferred to the server the timeouts start.
Any ideas on where to start? Or is this just a problem with the free friday and I picked the worst possible time to start the game? Thanks for any advice.

The fact that you were able to join 1 game would lead me to believe that there is not a problem with your game per se.
With the Freaky Friday promotion, it may very well be that the servers are overloaded with new players. I wonder how many of the new players are having the same issues...
You could try deleting the ClientRegistry.Blob file that is in your Steam folder and let it be recreated and see if it helps. Also try logging out of Steam manually instead of just closing Steam and see if that helps.
A buttload of people have been having connection issues since the DLC release. Hopefully Valve is working on a fix.

Yes, you have to be signed into Steam to play, I just thought it would be worth a try to actually log out of Steam, wait a few minutes, then log back in and see if it makes a difference. Someone thought that logging out would reset some stuff that might help...or it might not...easy enough to try, eh?

so I had some developments...
After trying just about everything on my PC and router I connected directly to my modem as a last result. To my surprise the game and connected worked fine. I didn't think I had a router problem because everything else seems to work fine.
So now I'm trying to figure out what exactly my dlink DIR-655 is doing that is blocking L4D. I have a static IP for this machine, I have Steam ports forwarded, I have SPI turned off now (didn't solve this problem).
Is there anything else anyone can think off that a router would do to interfere with steam or L4D?
