Stupid Name Question

Is there a way to change my name on TF2 like CSS? I am stuck with Willderness1 but would like to change it but can't find a way in the options. Do I need to change my Steam ID?

You can do it in game or out.

But yes, change your steamid name.

Go to community / edit steamid and enter in your new name there.

If your in game you can hit shift+tab and down on the bottom right there is a community button or some such you can click that will take you to the same place.

I might have some of the screen names wrong here but that is basically it.

That should help you out, since TF2 uses your steam name in-game. While you're at it, check out some of the other articles, there's some useful stuff there.

Easier than going into the community thing. Just Shirt + Tab then go to settings and there should be a multiplayer tab that you can change your name in. Its about the easiest way.

What really pissed me off is that the console command for changing names doesn't work anymore, totally retarded.

Well, I think part of it is that Valve wants to get people using the whole Steam community as a whole, so they force people to at least acknowledge its existence whenever they want to change their in-game name.

I disagree. Although it was convenient to change your name so easily, it was annoying as fuck when a cheater would join CSS and just keep changing his name so it would take forever for the admins to ban his ass. Or the cheater would just change his name to someone else's in the server, making it a 50/50 chance of banning the right person.

Less convenient, but also less abuse.

I appreciate the way it works now. I hate how some people use like 20 billion aliases, either trying to be funny or trying to pull one over on you.

Also it just makes sense with games that are on the same platform to not have to adjust your name (and other settings) for each one.

I guess I'm just a pick a name and stick with it kinda guy. :9
