Overheard...
...someone talking about a mod that can be used to make every round Sudden Death death match.
I definitely would not want this all the time, but I must admit I am intrigued by the suggestion.
Sudden Death makes people so much more involved, the high risk puts everyone at the top of their game.
I think it must be obvious to see the benefits of having that level of commitment every time you leave spawn.
Also, on custom maps, IMHO it would be nice to put them in the vote, but not in the rotation.
And BTW on voting - I don't believe I have ever seen a successful vote my entire time on the TF2 server. Honest. Could it perhaps be set at %50 vote to get the next map? 11 out of 22 vote for one map and it goes? Perhaps simply the map with most votes wins? I know a lot of us are always harping 'type vote to vote' but it never seems to get us anywhere. Maybe a longer voting window time? It's hard to vote while taking a point or dodging rockets. Sure seems like that time limit comes up fast.
All this is probably difficult if not impossible. Sorry if any of it is unreasonable. Just trying to make the community better.

Re: Overheard...
The voting system has been a problem for a while. At first I thought it was broken because in console it always says there are way more votes, but then i realized that mani always displays actions twice. For example, if you vote for dustbowl, it says you voted twice, and only increments the count by 1.
The reason no one votes is because that stupid window only stays open for 4 seconds and then closes. And people are all too focused on the game. Its just gonna take time for people to get used to voting, or mani will have to update the mod.
Believe it or not I have never played a TF2 custom map. Feel free to make a suggestion or even a dedicated thread to the custom discussion. I have no idea which ones are good or which ones suck, but Im sure somebody does. And I agree with having it in the vote and not in the rotation.

Re: Overheard...
I dunno.
Maybe it's just me, but I really prefer just plain ol' vanilla TF2. I was the same way once upon a time with Counter-Strike.
In fact, the only custom mod I've ever thoroughly enjoyed was Desert Combat.
Most custom maps suck, IMHO. Most game mods do as well. Turning a game like TF2 into a deathmatch game .. you might as well play UT or Quake or something along those lines.
I play TF2, COD4, and the other games I've played in the past for the teamwork. Deathmatch, at least in my experience - even team deathmatch, involves no teamwork. Team Deathmatch sometimes will have a little, but rarely.
Just my opinion.
Leave it the way it is, fix the voting, though.

Re: Overheard...
Sometimes I want to kick myself.
Deathmatch != Sudden Death (which is what I meant)
1 life to live and what not.
Screw around and you get to sit around dead.
Serious business.
As for dedicating a server to that - even though it sounds fun, I couldn't see justifying that.
But now maybe at off peak odd hours a few times a week?
Saturday mornings, Wednesday after midnight, etc...
Probably requires a restart of the game on the server, and so there would have to be someone willing to do that. Possibility for scripting/automation? I would think so.
Would be awesome to be able to apply this kind of change by vote.

Of course all of this is simply musing on my part.
It would be interesting to see some more point of views on this.

Sudden death only would make the game more about killing than a team capping a point. Counter Strike has this problem built in. Most rounds in CSS come down to killing the bad guys more than it comes down to bomb stuff or rescuing hosties.
Sleep, eat, conquer, meditate, repeat.

Re: Overheard...
I believe we should keep SD as is since it doesn't seem to change tactics that much except for regs which are very little now that the non teamers are stanking up the server. Time and again I say everyone stay on the point no one leave the point! Of course no one wants to listen to the fourteen year old :P and the retards ( more than half the team) run outside and get snipped and then it comes down to me a lucky sniper and the engies.... HELP! seems to lack I need an even better word :P.

I think sudden death is fun because you don't get to do it all the time. It's also a great equalizer. Last night my team couldn't do shit. we tried, but continually failed......until sudden death that is.
