Thread: Make Out bought The Orange Box...finally

    Time for the 'He Hates Everything!' review. You know you all love me an my opinion.

    First off, I played this with AssistnDestroy. Thank you to him. As most of you know, I hate Dead Air. With a passion (like everything else ever created.) I mainly played this to see what 'big' changes there were. I will not leave a TLR for you, because I want you to read the whole review.

    Opening cinematic and First Chapter: Cinematic hasn't changed. Im okay with that. Quick run-through of the First level. No changes in the map at all. Thats fine cause DA1 doesn't need to be changed. Its fine the way it is.

    2nd Chapter: While waiting for Assist to come in, I noticed that DA2's freezer no longer has a door. Cool, but that never bothered me to be honest. 98% of the time, a Tank didn't spawn where it could be exploited anyway (When I played at least.) Going through the hotel, no real change. Guns on the bed. Step outside to the crane, and a fence is between the crane and the dumpster. Im not sure what purpose it serves there honestly. We start crane, camp hotel, no big issues.

    We walk across the dumpster, and I run down to the corner to try something out. A tank spawns right as I shoot the alarm car below. Weird enough, the tank was near the alarm car in the alley way. I successfully set off the car alarm with no issues (Not sure if this is considered a glitch or not by you hardcore DA users) So hoarde and Tank. Good thing this was Normal. Nobody seriously injured. While crossing roofs, the AI's get stupid, and fall somehow, left clinging. LSS: Everyone got saved. The rest of the level is exactly the same.

    3rd Chapter: Skipping straight to the crescendo, you can again light it with a molotov (which I did for testing purposes), and Smokers spawned en masse. Not sure if this was for anybody else but I easily saw 7-8 smokers during this crescendo. Aside from that, not much else to report. The outside of the airport was eerily quiet. A real lack of zombies around this area compared to the L4D1 version. Around this point, I noticed a distinct lack of ammo stashes. We get to the safe room without serious incident.

    4th chapter: Here is where the real changes (and some laughter) began. Out of the safe room, nothing different, get down to the van and I throw a pipe bomb. Clears out every zombie and signals a tank. (I have never signaled a tank with a throwable before. Not sure if this is new or what.) After about 5 minutes, he shows up, in front of the safe room. Me and Assist make quick work of him, and thats when Louis yells out 'That was for you, Bill!' Now obviously this was a line for the Sacrifice. I, being bill, standing behind Louis, just laughed.

    We start the van, and I stand in front of it, and it pushes me aside, not through. We molotov the gate and run. AI's die, and we happen upon the biggest change. The metal detector is now a forced continuous crescendo. We run through it, and not a single zombie appears. Clear stroll to the saferoom. I was a bit disappointed, but this is a BETA afterall. No points off for trying, VALVe. We walk into the safe room with 2 dead AI's but we are unscathed.

    Chapter 5 and Finale: The finale seems to look roughly the same to me. The best part is when I was walking near the edge of the plane, I heard a distinct hoarde noise, and looked around worried, but not a single zombie was in sight. Thats when I saw a leg sticking out of the tail of the plane. The whole hoarde spawn glitched into the plane. I laughed so hard and proceeded to gun down the tail and watch blood fly out. Finale was pretty simple. Used the corner with the unclimbable luggage piles and nobody died.

    Overall: Not too many real changes. Some fundamental changes that were needed to make it more difficult, but most fell flat on their face or proved ineffective to me on this run. Keeping in mind that it is BETA, if VALVe can make it all work properly when it is cleaned up, then I will love it. DA on L4D2 is much better than DA on L4D1 for its changes though.

    Final rating of 7/10.

    (And if anyone cares, I hate L4D1 Dead Air because it is Orange when the other maps and blueish and greenish. I hate Orange so much, but since L4D2 uses a mixture of dark and light maps, it works a lot better here.)

    I'm shocked that you ran into those infected glitches on your play through TR. In the 4th map, we had to deal with an endless horde all the way to the safe house. That and some of the tank spawns seem more like chance than a bug in the system

    But I guess since it's a beta, strange things tend to happen. Nevertheless, I'm glad that DA wasn't changed too dramatically. One other thing I'd like to point out about DA is the change in the finale setting; not only is there a lot more junk to serve as cover for the infected, but the survivor's corner near the plane is permanently engulfed with flame to ensure it's never exploited. I was glad to see both since DA5 was especially unfriendly for VS play.

    lol... Why do you hate orange?? Does that mean you hate the over cast, early morning look of Blood Harvest too?

    Night time Blue/Green coloured skys is really only half of the game.
