    Hello

So i decided to get Team Fortress 2 today. Coming from Cod4 and BF2 and 2142. Was never planning to get the game but i noticed TTP hosted it and thought "eh why not?". Steam is still downloading the game but it should be done soon, and I'll try to get on the servers today. Spy looks like fun..... any help would be nice.

Welcome Mr.Lucky to the best game on steam! You should be able to get plenty of quality help on the server as long as you talk to people. To many new people refuse to ask for help or talk to the team at all. If you see me in game feel free to ask all the questions you want.

If theres one thing us TTP TF2 regs can be proud if is the willingness to help others looking for it.

Make sure to read the rules:
    http://www.texasteamplayers.com/index.php?topic=22008.0

There are plenty of great threads in the forum accentuating classes and strategies.

There is also this great wiki out there: http://tf2wiki.net/wiki/Main_Page

Some of the best advice I can give you is 'practice makes perfect'. Everyone has their own style of play and find their niche(s) with different classes and situations, so just play the hell out of the game and dont be afraid to ask for help on or off the servers.

See you on the battlefied (make sure to watch your back )

    what enf said +

You WILL get owned o the TTP servers for a couple rounds. Play through it, there is certainly a technique for every class. You have to learn them, not one at a time, but slowly. Once you do you start to play the game the way it is meant to. TTP is honestly the best (im emphasizing the skill of your regs.) server around, its rough at first, but then anyone who comes from lala land gets worked by you!

Dont be afraid to say hello and ask questions, I wont bite, most dont... some do. LOL

Welcome, have fun getting owned. If you have fun when you are the worst on the server when you get better there will be no problems, and fun will be had every time you play.

    Re: Hello

My advice is to ask questions. The guys playing are happy to assist and when you start a dialog the whole team will typically chime in and get on the same page (a la teamwork). While there are different strats to each class they all have some basic features that you will learn fairly quickly.

All classes share the same fact. Staying alive is better than doing a little damage and dying. Discression is the better part of valor.

Spy - I suck at the spy, but whatever. Your targets are enemy medics, heavys, snipers and buildings. Always have a disguise on. Run backwards into enemy camps to make it look like you're retreating. Always make sure you select a class to disguise as that the enemy team actually has.

Heavy - You have LOTS of ammo. Use it. Always look behind you. Keep a medic close. If you don't have a medic close find a dispenser or ammo/health respawn and keep your back to a wall. Spies love you. Run with your shotgun out because the other takes too long to spin up. You are slow, but pack a huge punch at medium and short ranges. If you get a kritskrieg (guaranteed critical hit) from a medic you are a force to be reckoned with. Your gun just became a piece of artillery.

Demo - Best class at destroying buildings and hitting things that you do not have line of sight on. Load up enemy points with stickies and watch them scatter. You are fast, but don't have the most health. Use your stickies along with a jump & crouch to boost yourself to strategic points (onto rooftops etc). A common use for a demo is to uber them and go into an enemy base to take out all the buildings. Reload often.

Pyro - Light ppl on fire and when they run use your axe or shotgun to finish the job. Also good for groups of people clumped together in a tight space. Use your airgun (alt-click with flamer) to push demo stickies off of sentries or to deflect demo grenades/stickies and soldier rockets back at them.

Scout - Keep moving. Use the bat close, the shotgun at short range, and the pistol at all other ranges. Just keep moving. If you stop you will die.

Medic - Also keep moving. You are very likely to get sniped/stabbed and constant movement helps prevent this. Stay behind who you are healing and let them absorb damage. Always be looking behind who you are healing. Spies are notorious for coming in and backstabbing a heavy and a medic, so if you're turned around you can warn who you are healing. Also, don't be firing your gun unless you are running away. healing is your primary job

Soldier - These guys also put out a ton of damage. Use long-range rocket firing to destroy enemy turrets and buildings when the engineers are not on them. At close range as in when fighting a pyro or the likes of them shoot at their feet. Watch them bounce in the air and right as they land (before they can hit you) shoot the floor near them again and watch them die. You only have 4 rockets, so when you are in a tough fight use them and then bust out the shotty. You have lots of health.

Engineer - Your job is defense and troop movement. First thing put up a tele entrance by spawn. Second drop a tele exit by near where you will be building (or somewhere near there that's safe). Then grab some metal and get up your sentry. If you see another engineer with a sentry more upgraded than yours help them get it levelled to 3 first. One level 3 is > than 3 level 1 guns. Always make sure your entrances are placed in front of the spawn you are using as the spawns move in cap point games. Also place your dispenser near, but not on top of your sentry to avoid a spy or demo blowing it all up at once. Rebuilding one building is easier than 2.

that's my 2c. Practice makes perfect.
