Clarification on firing through the gates at startup

Yesterday I noticed an admin put up a god warning for a pyro who fired through the gates on startup and lit someone on fire. I was a puzzled because I thought firing through gates at startup was permitted per the rules sticky.

Here's the text from the rules sticky:

"If a player(s) is exploiting bugs and hacks, that is a different story, and the admins will punish these players before you probably even notice it is happening. Rocket/pipe jumping over obstacles or firing through cracks/fences during setup time is NOT an exploit. It's a sign that the developers should have made taller obstacles and provided complete cover from fire, since the developers are WELL AWARE of player abilities to rocket/pipe jump, and shoot through cracks and it is very likely they intentionally design maps to allow for such tactics."

I have also seen snipers shoot through the gate from time to time, although that's pretty rare since most gates don't allow it.

If pyros and snipers can't do this, can we update the rules sticky?

If the answer is no for pyros/snipers, then the question is also raised: if pyros can't do it, why can demomen?

That IS an exploit. They don't just "put" holes in the geometry, and they only way you can hit someone when doing that, is when they are Taunting through the door. I don't think that that would be considered a dev thing. They will probably fix this, unless, of course, is is made to be there.

    Me: "Have fun?" "Hahaha"

It has been determined that a Pyro or Sniper (or in rare cases Demos) firing though the gates during setup on the maps that have gates is considered an exploit.

It doesn't matter what class it is or how much damage they are causing. If you look at TF2 over the last year, there have been multiple gate exploits, each one getting fixed by valve, which goes even further in pointing out how they are an exploit.

The situation with the trains on well with soldiers and demos jumping over the trains is not an exploit, so it's legal. Think about how Valve has actively fixed the gate exploits as they come up, yet they have yet to put a gate / wall / barrier over the trains to prevent the jumping despite knowing full well about rocket / pipe jumping and even designing maps with that in mind (gravelpit comes to mind). Valve is perfectly fine with soldiers and demos jumping over the trains on well, so we are too.

Now regarding how to punish the exploit. First off it's a banable offense, so when it doubt just ban the player. You are in no way obligated to warn or kick them first, and in most cases, it's just better to remove them from the server than to be nice and give them an extra chance.
I will modify the server rules momentarily. Modified

    Understood, thanks Arreo.

This topic can be locked now I think.
