Pyro flare gun or shotgun?

I think Coors nailed it, if youre playing offensively, the shotgun is the best option. Defensively, flare gun lets you sit back on an engie point and dink scouts and snipers without having to extend yourself and expose your setup to spys.

I've seen some very good Pyros with a flare gun, always setting you on fire as you run away.
And the reload for the flare gun is awesome.
But I prefer the shotgun.
