    Demo recording/playback question

I want to create a demo of me on a server alone doing some trick jumps. I want to be able to play back from an outside angle to see what the jumps look like from 3rd person. Is this possible? The "drive" option sounded like it would work, but my own character isn't displayed anymore (it's like I've "moved" my body rather than just going out of body). Do I need a second person on the server to record a demo? Is it possible to spoof that somehow with a bot?

You need a server demo, I think.

Individual demos only show your perspective, while you can wander as though you were in spec on server demos... HLTV is what you need.

Thanks. How hard/possible is it to set up a "server" demo/HLTV on my own private "server" with just me goofing around?

Set up a tv instance, and demo it. I'm not too sure of it all, but it shouldn't be too bad, aside from an additional load on your pc... I think? :P

    Re: Demo recording/playback question

Thanks Civil. That got me somewhere, but now I'm stuck again. I recorded a demo with SourceTV present and auto-recording. Now when I play back that demo it is indeed a fixed position and I can see myself running around outside of the camera. BUT... I can't move the fixed position, the "drive" thing doesn't work with it, and there's a message at top of screen that says PRESS <NOT BOUND> FOR AUTO DIRECTOR... and I can't find a damn thing anywhere about what command I need to bind to use the autodirector. This is frustrating...

To move the camera, all you have to do is use <space> and the mouse buttons to change target player, and view... Same as spec.

    Re: Demo recording/playback question

Well, using spectator in the sourceTV demo I can now float anywhere I want to get the angles I want to output frames for a movie. However, there are large grey bars at top and bottom of screen which ruin the FOV and aspect ratio. Any way to get rid of this? My current fix is just to crop in video post-processing, and at 1680x1050 I can still almost get 720p even after the crop... but I wish there was a way to get rid of the bars...

    Re: Demo recording/playback question

Another interesting problem I ran into while outputting my .dem's to Targa files... for some reason, some of the time (but not all of the time) the demo will "skip" while outputting, so that when you assemble the TGA's to a movie and view it, if your guy is supposed to move smoothly across the screen, there will be one fram out of place that does not belong, of him 1 second behind where he should be, so it looks for a split second like he teleports a few inches twice in a row, back then forwards again. Anybody seen this?
