So widescreen FOV 110 would probably be like FOV 120/130 with the old 4:3 display.

110 would be great, I use it in quake live and its really nice, but would hurt spies/pyros/scouts since flanking and sneaking up is important to them.
It is important to remember that you are setting the desired_fov with the emphasis on desired. We have no idea how the client actually decides on what fov to give you or what that fov is. This process probably does consider aspect ratio, and I would be surprised if you get a higher fov on a wider screen.

The more I think about it the more I feel like this is a necessary project. I will try to test this out this weekend and report my results.

That was basically what I was going to do to test this so I guess I won't bother :P

I find it interesting that wider screens do in fact get a competitive advantage. I won't go so far as to complain though as I have a 16:9 display.

I thought about this too, and the thing is, if you wanted to give a 16:10 the same horizontal FOV as a 4:3 (or 5:4 which is even worse) display, you would have to DECREASE the vertical FOV of the 16:10 display... which would now be putting WS displays at a DISadvantage.

The only way to make an even playing field would be to put a 4:3 signal to a 16:10 display and then either stretch it or crop it (letterbox) which would both be stupid.

yea it's in the options and it probably will increase your killing power...as if it weren't high enough already >.> haha
I played with it at the default for a while and I found myself getting more kills than before as soldier, it helps a lot just because you can see more than before.

And I'm sure they've answered the original posts question a few times over but yea...it depends on your monitors aspect ratio, so everything looks proportionate. So if you have a wide screen, your characters wont be short and fat lol
