    To prevent that from happening in the future I would recommend getting the Adblock Plus add-on for Firefox and maybe the NoScript add-on as well. If you prefer to use Chrome or Opera then AdSweep would be your best option. If you prefer to use IE you're kind of SOL unless you want to get into solutions that require using a proxy or editing the hosts table.
