The reason is that airstrafing, or carving as I like to call it (which is essential to the RJ maps I like to do) requires SLOW movement. If you move too fast, it actually destroys the airstrafe... it feels like you're spinning your wheels in the mud.
I understand the concept, and use it for all classes at various times. I find it WAY easier to airstrafe with say, scout on low sens. The general human tendency is generally to overcorrect, so cutting in too hard is the most common mistake, and if you're not rocket jumping, it's more rushed so it gets even worse.

Well, I go through rj_rckteer_adv about once a day (yes, I know I'm crazy) and usually it takes me around 40-60 minutes (with most of that time being spent on #7 ). Of course, 2 months ago I couldn't do it at all, so I'm happy to be able to do it even in an hour.

So... I just did it again today, for the second time with my new sensitivity (7.7" 360) and I got my fastest time ever by far, about 15 minutes for the whole map (with 2/3 of that on #7 still ). So, I was definitely wrong that lower sens would make RJ's harder.

I may have to experiment with this, I find myself using 1800 dpi a lot. So I may just use the config to set a certain sensitivity and maybe even the cross hair for each class. That is of course after I've had my fill of MW2, which should be right about now since I've already got to level 70. :P

Lower sensitivity makes everything easier in FPSs.

    Except for facestabs, naturally.

Does anyone else play with mouse acceleration on?

FWIW, I use a 1800 dpi mouse, default window, and 2.8 in game sens. Mouse accel ON.

I lowered my in game sensitivity (still with mouse accel on) and tried to play scout. I didn't really like it all that much. I didn't do particularly better or worse against other classes except versus another scout which was a bit worse. But I'm still experimenting.

Hey, I just had to reply, that's funny since your settings are so close to mine. I use 1600 dpi at 2.8 or 3...I've been using 3 for a while now. Seems like when I play scout I can go head to head with someone and miss every shot, so I feel your pain. But I'm getting the hang of it. My advice is to stay with what you have for every class and not mess with this at all.
