    Question for Soldiers

Would you use the Direct Hit if it had the following

    • Had only +15% damage to keep it from 1 shotting the lighter classes
    • Did full crits on airborne targets instead of minicrits
    • Had a max fall off of 72% so the weapon did a minimum of 75 damage at long range? Rewarding players for hitting enemies at long range?
    • Had a 10% larger explosion radius than it has now?

Thoughts? Cause I love the weapon but it seems many Soldiers don't enjoy it as much as I do.

Probably...I use it intermittently and it can be a real wrecking ball but when your aim is off and you arent feeling it, the regular RL does substantially better.

Probably would still be a fringe weapon, because the huge splash advantage of the current rocket launcher is what makes it better.

When you splash a group of players with 4 rockets, you do way more total damage with the regular rl than the DH or that modified one would do.

The DH has a 70% smaller splash radius, so adjusting that by 10% with your suggestion means its a 60% smaller radius, still not enough advantage in most game situations to warrent using it over the regular rl.

The full crits isn't really necessary, if you midair someone with the the DH they are basically done anyways even if they don't die. The long range damage minumum of 75 would be helpful.

Ya I really only use DH for long range fighting. The full crit would be way overpowered tho...

Regular rocket launcher is too awesome. The direct hit can be nice when you get some lucky shots or if you are a REALLY good shot, but otherwise you are just hurting your overall damage output. The is especially true in 12v12 when single rockets can hurt 3+ people and a random crit can decimate a group pushing a card.

From a medic point of view, I hate healing, ubering or kritzing someone using the direct hit. Might as well just be sticking with a sniper for all the protection they can give you.

Biggest issue with the DH imo, is inconsistent medic protection, unless your aim is IMPECCABLE (EvilMonkey I'm looking at you).

regular rl seems to do more than enough damage. DH may be an advantage vs heavies. speaking of heavies I need to go through my demos from the tourney. I seem to remember an epic heavy rush.

I like Thorsen's arguement. The highest quality of the soldier is his ability to keep his medic alive. The RL does this better than the DH and imo the RL will always be better.

    Re: Question for Soldiers

Im against taking away one-shoting weaker classes (meaning scout spy sniper if im correct), thats one of the great things about it. Doesnt need the full crits but defiantly the lesser falloff and more splash as well.
Ive seen the weapon just TEAR up a team (yes as thorsen said Evil Monkey) and really it doesnt need a buff but its just not enough to get people interested in it.
