Building a Visual Basic program as part of college work, admins please respond?
Hi, I'm from the UK and a regular at the TeamPlayerGaming servers on Team Fortress 2.
As part of college work, I've been assigned a project to do this year for a client, which could handle data. Trouble is, haven't got a client. Could an admin please give me a program to construct in Visual Basic? (I've decided to base it around TF2). I've heard that some of the clans and teams in the TPG community have scrim servers, possibly for 6v6, 8v8 and Highlander. Maybe I could build a program that works like TF2Lobby: a server is chosen (or entered), player names are entered and classes are selected within the program, (their name then enters a database) then the IP is entered into another box, which redirects players to the server. Then, when the end of the match is reached, the outcome is input into the program.
Urgently need a project to do, it's getting into October now and it's needed.
Thanks for reading, and like I said, could I get an admin to assign me something like this?

Well Darkshift, you have definetely come to the right place. The 2 people your going to want to talk to are Ewok, and bunni. Both are our resident techno-networking-all-in-one-extrodinares. Hell, Ewok designed and built Lonestar, the admin mod that we run on TF2. Let me send them a PM to come take a look at this.

What are the requirements of your project? There's lots of possible tasks, but you want to make sure you pick something appropriate.
For instance if all you need is to manage data, then wrapping server cofnigs into a nice GUI could be a good project. Imagine a UI where you can pick from templates like "6v6 scrim" and put in some custom tweaks and it generates an entire server config for you that follows the standards of various scrim organizations

Well, it's basically a kind of database, where information is entered into a form made in Visual Basic and stored in a .txt file. That and the fact is needs to be complex internally, but easy to use by the end user (aka you), are pretty much the only requirements. That example I gave about sorting scrims in the introductory post, something like that would be the final product. I'm making it entirely from scratch, just starting a new Form in VB, and building the program. It would need to have multiple menu and submenu dialog boxes, and multiple ways to enter different kinds of data for different uses and store it in text files.
If you don't mind, would you give me a list of potential programs I could construct?
