But crates are free. (can you buy them? I don't remember)

Keys cost money, but are you assuming that Valve gives portion of key sales to Poly authors IF the key results in poly item unlock? I do not think this is the case, but I also don't think it's clearly defined anywhere.

I assumed that only poly purchases result in poly payouts.

Ya I think they'd only get paid for their items, Individual and packs, Not paint, keys, dueling ect.

A series 2 crate has a 50%+ chance of giving a poly count item. Sales are sales.

***That's a 50% chance of giving a community made item FROM the polycount/MannCo update, not necessarily from the polycount sets.

I wonder what percentage of the a sale goes to the guy made the model. I mean really, in the end these guys only made the models for these weapons. They did not make the weapon attributes, nor balance test them, nor put any other work except make a model. Does that really justify being paid $40 k??

Well it is their work, and it is a contest, I think it's only fair they get a big prize like this. Personally I'm glad Shaylyn Hamm is getting paid for her work, she's pretty good at what she does. Hopefully Valve will add her female models in too someday.

25%, it was in the article. So valve made nearly $1M off of this.

Is it justified? The thousands of people who all paid into that $1M obviously thought so.

Justify what?... You're disappointed Valve gave so much money back to the community who made the content?
