Help for a friend?
Hey, I'm not sure if you know Kothen all that well or not, but he's a friend of mine that plays on TPG sometimes. I believe Wats knows him too.
Anyway, Kothen's having trouble with his TF2, he's getting choppy gameplay much like this YouTube - TF2 stuttering problem
He's running dual core 2.53 ghz processor. Nvidia 9600m GT, 4gb ram, 500gb HDD, its and HDX 18t.
Since the Mannco update he says he's been having trouble, but before then it ran fine.
I was hoping that all you vets who've seen it all may have some suggestions to try? Thanks a lot in advance! To clear any confusion: Xanthur34 is my username, but Soleg is my Steam name.

Re: Help for a friend?
The only thing I could think of it being is a possible graphics problem, network issue, or maybe a memory problem.
There's a lot of possible fixes but from my experience these two sites helped the most
FPSBANANA > Forums > Team Fortress 2 > Help > Have stuttering?
Brand new "fix" for looping sound crash! (PagedPoolSize))
And if those don't work, complete reinstall. You'll have to do the following in this order
1. Uninstall tf2 through steam, this will remove the game from the list, but not completely from your hardrive.
2. Back up any and all custom maps, skins, sounds, cfgs, etc, these will be deleted if you don't back them up first.
3. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\Kothen and delete the team fortress 2 folder, and then go back to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps and delete all team fortress 2 resources, except anything with BETA or MEET THE in it. This means steam will give your fresh files, so there's usually no chance of it being some kind of error with the game itself.
4. Reinstall the game, then wait till it finishes, play a bit, and see if you have the problem. If not, add your custom stuff back, if you have the problem then, then it's something to do with a skin or model you added. If you still have the problem, despite having no skins, models, or cfgs, then there is something about the game that does not agree with your computer. You may have to delve deeper in terms of config settings.

Re: Help for a friend?
I wish I could give you a fix, but it seems like TF2 performance has slowly degraded with each update. I had to overclock to 3 ghz, and upgrade from the 9600gt to a gtx460 to get steady fps. I still see choke, but I believe that is due to the new items lacking lower LOD so you are forced to load high res models all the time. There has been talk of an engine optimization by valve, but who knows when that would happen given valve time.

Re: Help for a friend?
I actually got some of this last night - I hadn't played in a couple weeks (before last update) and the first 5-10 minutes I was on the server I was getting sound loop lag stutters like in this video, slowly it got better and at some point it stopped and my gameplay was normal.
It'll be interesting to see if it continues tonight.
