Si, as Ruuk said. The Axe rewards players with quick reflex skill, speed, and judgement to know when to flame, when to shotgun/flare, or when to melee.
Theres a lot going into it, but basically it completely changed the pyro dynamic. And emphasized his hit and run (or hit and die) capabilities.

The Degreaser, Axtinguisher, Kritzkrieg, Ubersaw, Sandvich, Bonk!. These are the weapons I think are the best. I'll explain each of them:
Degreaser: decreases burn damage, but allows faster weapon switch. This may seem pointless at first glance, but it shows how Pyro is meant to be played. Flame, airblast, axtinguisher. Insta kill, and prevents the silliness of W+M1.
Axtinguisher: Rewards you for setting the enemy on fire. (see above.)
Kritzkrieg: The opposite of the medigun, brilliant on defense, and a much-needed unlock to allow a medic to vary his playing style. And for the patient to go on a much-needed rampage.
Ubersaw: 25% ubercharge on hit, but at the cost of 20% slower swing speed. The latter is completely unnoticeable, and the weapon allows players to play skillfully: At over 75% uber, but not quite 100% yet, the rest of your team has died and you're the only one left. The answer? Slash someone, and run like hell.
Sandvich: Allows the Heavy to play pocket properly, and support his team more.
Bonk!: I know some might think I'm crazy for saying this, but Bonk! allows a Scout to do what he was born to do: scout. Especially in engie heaven, it does help to divert a sentry's attention so the team can take it down, or relay info back to the team about an upcoming hazard.
So yeah, that's my opinion on each of the weapons I think is best.

Axtingusher cause I feel like a bamf when I combo a heavy.
That and while it isn't an unlock, I really like the airblast on the regular flamethrower and Degreaser. It allows defense (Juggling/blocking ubers, blowing back rockets or pills while guarding a SG), teamwork (saving teammates on fire, combos if you blow enemies into the air while near one of your sentries or air shots by soldiers etc...), and offense (blowing people off the map, assisting in puff-axtinguisher combos, reflect kills)

You dont see the degreaser as much these days... The pyro unlocks have been pretty good generaly, fixing the weaknesses of the class without making it OP, a really good pyro will find a way to get close to axe you, a bad one will die before he has a chance. I think Bonk! could be a good unlock if scouts used it to assist their team. Iv had probably 3 games where a scout would communicate and work with his team to bonk in and take out a gun...
