Re: Poor Server Performance and Decline
Yadda yadda yadda testimonial blah blah. I've got one too. When i found the servers, I joined because it had the name teamplayers in it, and I wanted a place where actual teamwork would happen. My ping was decent to it, so I joined it. In no way did the name "texas" hold any attraction for me.. and why should it? I'm born and raised New York.
Everyone has a story like this as to why they joined, "I'm from texas", "I joined for the 'teamplayer'"... dime a dozen. The most common factor for most, Texas or not, was the ping was good and reasonable. That's the issue we'll hopefully address, the rest is window dressing for most gamers.. but to advertisers and the rest, "Texas" was too unreachable and we were turned down too many times.. So unless you think bigdog should pay for this site you read and the servers you play on out of pocket, we'll stick with the sensible decision we made and keep it TeamPlayer Gaming.

Speaking from an admin's standpoint, TF2 is not treated as a red headed step child. The High's put in a lot of work. A LOT.
enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P
Bigdog-Sweet home Alabama you are an idiot.

Re: Poor Server Performance and Decline
haha my apologies if I came off harsh.. i said all that with not a bit of rancor.. my point being.. everyone has a reason why they came here. For some it was texas, for some it was teamplayer, for some it was because there was a populated server. For most, if not all, it was because there was a good ping to connect to (otherwise we would have passed it by, regardless of the name). Once we got here, server stability, community and the people we met made us stay.. and it didn't matter where they were from.. the guy that made me want to stay is from Norway.
What we're working to do is restore that server stability, so that you guys can concentrate on the rest.. meeting cool people and growing a sense of community.. because you won't have to be worried whether or not your ping is going to be playable tonight.

Re: Poor Server Performance and Decline
I wouldn't say TF2 has been treated badly, but I would say it's one of those games that has a hard time with teamwork.
Primarily because it's hard to get serious in a game that doesn't take itself seriously. And as badly worded as that sounds it's fairly true. I never really took TF2 as a serious game, it's not like Battlefield or CSS where realism is the main appeal.
Everyone has that one class they enjoy the most. And unlike the Battlefield series, TF2 is rather unforgivable on class balance. In BFBC2, you can at least still use the Recon Set and have a G3 or a Shotgun, allowing you to use the motion sensors if you prefer to have them on you at all times. TF2 doesn't have that mix and match, the class lines can blur sometimes, but ultimately, every class has a designated job.
Soldiers, Demos, Heavies, their job is to push, hold, they are the heavy hitters in TF2. Scouts, Spies, Snipers, while fun, are lightweights, and don't put up much of a fight. Therefore, you want to have a small number of them. A team consisting of 6 people playing Spy, Sniper, or Scout will likely be rolled by a team with 8 people playing Heavy, Soldier, or Demo. While teamwork does involve working with the resources that you have, it also involves making calls. Someone telling another player, "hey, go kill that Heavy", or "focus on killing their Medics", and of course, no matter how much you guys may not like it, we have to say at some point "ok, we have way too many light classes, let's get some Soldiers and Demos".
To sum it up, it's very rock, paper, scissors in TF2, there's very little in between. A lot of times, people just want to have fun, and sometimes at the expense of their team.Last edited by Watsyurdeal?; 03-24-11 at 08:14 PM.
