To really do a 6v6 right you have to have people that arent going to randomly go pyro, or spy or...... Of course there are times for a spy, or a pyro, but not very often. Also have to commit to certain weapon restrictions and class restrictions. If its not played under esea/cevo rules, it wont really be worth it... imo...

That's because they can actually field a server full of reservists.

And I believe any other events besides fnf that take away from the public server population at a time when we're trying to revive the public server is a waste. Currently, I don't even think fnf is worth it, since it takes a lot of people away during one of the best prime times of the week. When it was held 2 weeks ago, the match server was full while the public sat empty. Priorities, people. If we want to have events, then we should focus on keeping the server we use most populated above all else.

I agree with you, which is why I wanted to do the FNFs differently, ONE (1) 30min game on a custom map with different game settings that we don't get to play often, then off to the PUB. A quick interesting 30min to kick start people's night while reminding them what else TF2 has to offer. Playing any longer hurts the server and playing on stock maps is stupid (You might as well play in the PUB).

Though I'm not in a position run them anymore and have no control, that is just how I feel they should be ran and how I would run them.

6 vs. 6 with intense coordination sounds fun as an idea, but anyone who hasn't done it before and is getting excited about it should know a few things before they get too happy.

You have to be really good at either Soldier, Scout, or Demo...period. 6 vs. 6 boils down to winning 1 vs. 1 stand-offs. How quickly you can kill someone of the same class (among those three classes only) on your own determines if you are useful in 6v6. A small group of us at my old community (penny-arcade.com forums) gave it a try for a little while and we all quickly hated it. Within our little pass-word protected server community we had been the best, and we played a pick-up game against the MiSfits and they wiped the floor with us. (I think in the last round they went melee only to mock us. A real classy bunch.)

6v6 isn't about all dm, look at x6 in invite, easily the weakest dming team, yet they went undefeated. Why? because they rely on their death-ball and teamwork. If you think winning in 6v6 comes down to 1v1'ing it's because you don't know how to play it properly. I think this would be a good idea, it built a lot of interest in the past and maybe can get some more people in to competitive. Also, like gonz said you have to play scout/demo/soldier/med almost the entire match. Maybe sniper if you're a boss (like as good/better than pimp). There are times for spy/pyro ect. generally the only time those classes should be used is when attacking last or possibly defending last, but only in certain situations that don't arise very often, so sticking to one of the core classes like gonzo said is probably best. Also, pretty much all the unlocks except vanilla/gunboats/equalizer/bonk should not be used....period. They all are either worse than the original weapon, or stupid and banned. Especially natasha/fists of steel/sandman/battalions backup/ulla pool/wrangler.

Anyway, Ill start some pugs this weekend if theres enough people around, and lastly

Ever since I remember FNFs have always killed the server. Weather it was a server full of crap players or on low, it always ended up empty.
Though in the past when the server would die the FNF would decide to go back to the server and play there instead...

While I won't argue with you on that, you're forgetting the most important part of the team! Killing the other teams medic(or the same happening to you) can determine if you're about to push up or get pushed back. I may not be as good with the others but I can hold my own as a medic.

I suppose I miss-spoke. What I meant to express is that a person's ability to be at least moderately consistent at winning (or at least coming close) in 1vs1 situations determines their value for a 6v6. I know it may be difficult for FPS veterans to imagine but there are people who play TF2 and get fairly high scores and are very valuable to their 10 v 10 teams and feel confident in their abilities but it is because they play it almost like a strategy game. Whatever class they play they always aim for the classes whom they have an advantage against and avoid the classes that are evenly matched.

Obviously the medic is important, but in practical terms as far as planning a 6 vs 6 event or even putting together a competitive team having an army of medics show up who have little experience with the primary classes doesn't accomplish much.
