Re: In House TPG Tournament
I would like at least a 4v4 tourney and preferably 5v5 for obvious reasons I should hope, as well as the fact that the smaller the team, the more emphasis placed on individual player skill and less on teamwork (not that individual skill is a bad thing, but if you want more than a few competitive teams it wouldn't hurt to have larger teams). I'll see if any I can drum up some interest in this, and if not I'll probably be looking for a team as a scout/sniper. This is a pretty good idea and pretty motivating just at a time when I'm becoming less interested in TF2 again, maybe this and the new update can get me back into it.

Re: In House TPG Tournament
Hey a tournament sounds like fun. According to the Sign-Up thread ya'll seem to be going with 5v5.
I was wondering what rulesets yall were planning to use? 1 of each class? That seems the most logical, however it leaves the problem of the heavy class. Seems like the heavy would be vastly overpowered the fewer the players you have. While I am normally loathe to talk about not allowing a class, the heavy might be problematic.
Furthermore what are ya'll thinking about for items? Vanilla? Everything?
I think Vanilla+Med might be the way to go in order to simplify things. Everything might leave in some very problematic weapons like the wrangler and the fists of steel. If you want to be more strict, only allowing the kritz, quickfix and ubersaw might be a good idea.
Anyways I would be interested to play no matter what the rules finally are, but would be nice to see a discussion on what weapons are in.

Not a bad point to bring up. I think all vanilla might be the best way to start. That will level the playing field load out wise. New players will have experience with them and it might cut down on "well you only won because you went with the OP <whatever>" arguments. What say you, loyal TF2'ers?

Re: In House TPG Tournament
Well there's a few options for weapons:
(1) Vanilla (i.e. nothing allowed, fairest for all, perhaps more balanced, slower play)
(2) Vanilla + old Med (This is the predominate style in much of the world [old Med = kritz, blut, ubersaw])
(3) ESEA style (look at what the North American community has decided to ban/allow)
(4) Let TPG decide (might allow more than ESEA, probably would be difficult to get agreement)
(5) Everything (allowed in 9v9 highlander format, allows for some OP weapons, might not be fair to newer players)
I personally favor either (2) or (3). I think NA's way of dealing with unlocks, banning them automatically until most people can have them and then working out which ones allow for interesting new gameplay, is a good way to go. It allows for growth in the game, while hopefully weeding out weapons that are overly annoying or which slow gameplay down too much (remember the horror of old Natasha.)
(1) and (5) are the simplest rulesets and the best if you want everyone to be on the same page.
Personally, if ya'll go with (5) I would argue heavily that my team run a Heavy with Tomislav, Sandvich and Gloves of Running Urgently. Not because it is more fun, but because having that kind of firepower at mid so quickly, with virtually no downside is a no brainer. I think that kind of play would be boring in the end.
