Glad to see Valve is jumping on board with the free to play format .Exciting time for gamers world wide.
Free to play is the newiest step in the evolution of online gaming that wages war on the old standard cost restrictions that limited traffic in most game titles .
A free game software distribution with low cost purchase options for ingame materials etc has been found to be a much better way to increase user client traffic and overall sales revenue of such titles.
Basically instead of you buying a title for 49.99 ,you can get the software and play it for free but for income purposes there will be OPTIONAL marketing for ingame materials .
I never really cared much for TF2 but since it is free to play now, it shows me this must be a product valve is confident in and by looking at the rising growth of the games population clearly the majority of the consumer is confident in it as well .
Damn good promotion just makes me want to dive right into the party.
I`m sure steam has some cards on the table relating to servers . I forecast cloudy skies with a high chance of one badass storm brewing
I imagine it`s gonna be fun reading the news in the months to come.
Good Job valve/steam glad to see you guys are playing to win.

time to bring 2nd tf2 server back?
I don't see why people here, at TPG, are pessimistic about having a crop of new/noob players, that's the whole point right? We admin our own servers, and we do a good job of it. Don't see what the problems would be.
I was never interested in TF2, but now it's free, I'm probably going to try it just to see what the fuss is all about. Plus something about hats makes me feel tingly.Last edited by [CoFR]SirMoo; 06-25-11 at 06:50 PM.

Re: TF2 Free to Play?
I think it is a great move by Valve. They must have been planning this for years. They release a game off of an old platform (common for them), make it better and do some cool things to it. This time it was all the hats and shit. My brother, for example, got it for free and because it was free to get (as compared to $20 new) he actually bought a few in game items to help him get started. They might possibly make less money off of it but they have put themselves in a GREAT position that practically ensures their future livelihood.
Also, TF2 > BF: Play 4 Free.Speed. I am speed.
