After some strange kills I went and did some testing.
The Splendid Screen is in fact still broken. Upon successful shield bash your sword swing always crits. Since you can shield bash with the Splendid Screen at any range it doesn't matter how far you charge. You can charge point blank into a soldier, turn, and crit his medic for 195.

I think that's actually intentional. Or to be more specific, both shields guarantee a crit after a charge bash, however the targe can only charge bash at long range. Since the screen allows you to bash at close range, it can get a full crit at close range. So it may be an oversight, but it's not a bug.

Exactly, Since the Charge-n-Targe can only bash when it would already be a crit swing it grants a crit after a bash, they just copied that code over. I didn't say it was a bug I said it was broken, or something that shouldn't happen/you shouldn't be able to do.
Still allows you to do 280 damage point blank very quickly. (85 bash + 195 crit swing)Last edited by insanegammer109; 07-17-11 at 02:33 AM.

To be honest, I'm trying to figure out why Valve made the targe useless, I mean aside from the extra resistance, what reason do you have to use the Targe over the Screen?
Personally, I'd like it if they made the Targe better for taking extra abuse, and the screen for heavy damage dealing. But the Targe doesn't really do that so well anymore since they nerfed it back in the War Update.

Huh? Nerfed in the WAR update? That's when the Targe was released, how was it nerfed when it was released?
Most of the 100% melee demos I see use the targe for the higher resistances, doesn't seem useless to me. (Ignoring the current instant crit problem that I believe is unintentional)Last edited by insanegammer109; 07-17-11 at 03:43 AM.

Reduced the explosive damage resistance on the Chargin' Targe to 50%
