Re: Stock HUD Modification?
If you are looking for a custom HUD that does exactly what you're looking for and much, much more, look no further than this.
FrankenHUD!
Screenshots and the DL at the bottom, there's also a steam group you can join to find out when new updates are released. (his crosshair in the screenshots is not the default one with the hud)
Even though you said you wanted to retain most of the default HUD, I have to say that this HUD does an excellent job of keeping in with aesthetics of TF2, but also cleans up the interface and counter/cart/cap points/ammo and such and is definitely worth at least a look and dry run.
I've been using this HUD for about a 8 months and the only complaint I can think of is that he can be a little slow with updates that come out that are very small in size but break your HUD all the same.Last edited by AtillatheBum; 07-29-11 at 03:02 AM.

A hud doesn't have to be updated when an update breaks it. I've been using the Quake Hud for months since support stopped (in April) through several hud breaking updates. You just have to restore your resources and scripts folders. You can do this by reinstalling the hud, or by making backups and restoring from those. Of course, if new hud elements get added, then the hud itself will need to be updated to support them, but this is much rarer.

Re: Stock HUD Modification?
I'm not sure what you are referring to, if anything Frankehud is much more compacted than the default TF2 hud because of the menu, scoreboard, and objective trackers being significantly redesigned . If even the default HUD is too much for you I don't really know what to say, I suppose you could do without the picture of your class, and the little boxes around the numbers and stuff, but other than that...
Personally, I could never use a HUD like the one you posted, all the menus and text are way out of sync with the rest of the game, it just does not fit in at all. For me, that's a pretty important factor, but to each his own. Like I said though, FrankenHUD is a great HUD for anyone that wants to streamline many of the HUD aspects of TF2 without sacrificing any of it's aesthetics.
