Rob,
Some interesting things I observed for the Eyeaduct map that may help you with your research:
- players griped about both sides not joining forces to defeat the eye (Monoculus), wanting a "team of teams," so to speak
- players griped about being killed in the underworld and Loot Island, yet Valve made it so...and I did, with maniacal glee
- players griped about other players who had already gotten the achievements as trolling the other players who hadn't
- players griped, basically...btw, enjoy your free map with free updates for your free game
- last but not least: emerging back into the map from the underworld overhealed, ubered, kritzed, and running blazing fast was really freaking fun!
I've had hours of fun with this map, if only to jump through the portals and come back from the underworld as a god, destroying both Monoculus and high-priority targets in my wake. Hella fun as almost any class, but I especially like Solly and Medic (my main classes anyway).
tl;dr version: This type of whacked-out gameplay is what KOTH needed all along—hopefully Valve can use some of these features in future maps.
