Thread: The Future of LoneStar

Ok, a few questions about the future of Lonestar.

Are we going to be offering this as a mod to other servers or are we keeping it in-house?

If we are distributing it will it be free or cost money?

If we are distributing it will this be copyrighted and have a EULA and everything?

If someone asks about LoneStar in game (as in looking to get it for their server) should we direct them to contact the TTP Yahoo account or somewhere else?

If we are looking to advertise and distribute it then I have the best idea for a flash ad. However it is beyond my skill level so if we are looking to advertise for LoneStar then I will PM the details to mikeN or Andrethon (or just put it in the Ad Banner thread). I just don't want to put the cart before the horse here.

Yes, but not yet. While it works, it's not complete enough to promote to others.

It's currently copyrighted to me. It will most likely have a "no warrenty" clause, but not really a EULA. It might even go open-source in an effort to build a bigger community around it, which in turn brings people to TTP. If it did go open-source, it would probably be put under GPLv3, to prevent other mod makers from benefiting unless their mod is also open source

But I think it's too early to commit one way or the other on the open source topic.

Lonestar will be getting a public forum for just itself, and that should work well for dealing with those requests. This forum will stay development oriented and private, while the public forum will be for outsiders and regulars to talk about lonestar (feature requests, bug reports from other servers, installation help, etc).

Go for it. But we won't use the ad for say another 2 months, which is our best guess at when lonestar would make it's true debut. At that time we'll announce it with fanfare, migrate the CSS and DoDS servers to it, register it with metamod as an official plugin, post about it on various other forums, etc. Having ads ready for this would be a great help if they could be done now vs afterwards.
