    map rotation question.

This may have been previously addressed... Sorry if that's the case.

I noticed the same map repeating twice a couple of times tonight. I'm not sure if an admin's manual change of maps spurs this on, but it would be nice if this couldn't happen.

Example... Admin notices the same map (fastlane) repeating again, checks nextmap (gravelpit), and manually changes to gravelpit. Type in "nextmap", and the server says gravelpit, while already on gravel pit.

    Happened about 10 minutes ago.

Funny thing is I left the server, and within a couple minutes it was on dustbowl. I was the only admin on there.

    map rotation question.

    Re: map rotation question.

Whenever the server jumps to another map, thus breaking the rotation, the server remembers where it last left off and will continue back after the "jump map" is over.

So if your on dustbowl, the next map is 2fort, an an admin jumps to turbine, once turbine is over it will jump back and do 2fort as the next map.

Because of the jumping behavior, it's possible to cause the server to do the same map more than once in a row.

Also "nextmap" takes all of this into account and will predict what the nextmap will be.

In your example let me paint a picture of how this can all happen.

Your on 2fort, nextmap is fastlane but an admin doesn't realize it. They switch to fastlane because of popular demand. So they are on fastlane, but the server will still choose fastlane as the nextmap, because it was the nextmap after 2fort before the jump. So now after fastlane, the server loads fastlane again and gravelpit because the new nextmap. So the admin in a desire to cause the map to be different tells the server to jump to gravelpit, but now nextmap will still be gravelpit because the server will jump back and see that gravelpit is the next map and do that.

Long story short, it's all controlled by Valve so we can't do much about it. But as a side note, if you want to lesson the chance of this happening, an admin should never change the map to the nextmap, or else he risks the map being played twice in a row because of the jumping behavior.

    That makes sense to me.

So... if a map comes up twice in a row... one should switch it, then set the nextmap to something else? Does that actually change where in the rotation the server is or is it just temporary as well?

    Re: map rotation question.

You can't change the rotation, you can only cause a temporary jump away from the rotation, and then the server will jump back.

So changing the map or setting the next map are just temporary jumps.

If I recall correctly, there's the ability in mani to force a change to the next map in the rotation, right? That would be preferable to manually keeping the server from playing the same map twice in a row, or two out of three times once the rotation is unfavorable.

Not sure how it's done, but here it is.

    ma_skipmap

Skip the current map that you are playing to the next one in the map cycle
    From:

    http://www.sourceserver.info/downloa...ion/index.html

This would allow you to easily get back into the map cycle without having to manually avoid a certain map repeating for the next few map changes.
