Hey all, first time posting here:
Is anyone aware of an option or ability to silence in game character voices? I play with a microphone 100% of the time and find it almost unbelievably irritating to have the characters speak their lines (which fast become repetitive).

I typically call any special infected on my mic about three seconds before them.
I don't want my character to tell everyone s/he's reloading every single time. I don't want to make or hear snarky comments about being shot by teammates.
I just want to be able to hear my other players mics and the environment.

I don't know if, with it's official status, this is the way to get the attention of valve: All I'm suggesting is a player character voices volume slider. Something that only effects me. I know a great deal of work has gone into the voice acting and it is good but it is far far too much. Ever played rochelle and she screams when incapacitated? I hate it. I actually hate it. Scripted vocals for set pieces are fine! Just the combat spiel. Give me the option to turn it off!

I don't really mind the survivor voices that much but I will agree with you on that. Rochelle's got the most obnoxious scream ever.

For your issue, the only thing I could even try suggesting would probably deal with moving the actual .wav files from your Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead 2\left4dead2\sound\player\survivor\voice folder to another location. I dunno what'll happen, or if it'd even work, but that's probably what I'd try first.

Yes, this way we have more customization and it is 100% devoted to L4D, not to mention the fact that we can be horrendous foul mouthed fucking bastards here without the Steam moderators pissing on us.

We're quite happy with TP, he may devour the souls of tiny kittens, but he's as big of a bitch as the rest of us.

Also you can actually do something very SIMILAR to what you want, although it won't be as good as what you want.

EDIT: Darn, it won't work that way, however you can turn the music volume up to max and turn the game volume down very low, you will still hear the music so that you can still be ready for special infected among other things and the annoying commands of others will be very faint to a point that you can easily ignore it, it's what I do because I still need to be able to hear the others sometimes.
