A possible new contest?

So I thought with the TTP Banner contest going so well there might be room for another contest. Namely a writing contest.

The idea came from Potemkine and my articles about our time here at TTP. And I thought, I bet everyone here has their own really cool TTP story.

So the contest would be this: write a short article on the subject "My TTP story" or maybe "What TTP means to me"

Prizes aren't that important but it would be neat if there were some.

What do you guys think?

Interesting thought....but how exactly would we judge it? I think it would be great though.

Judged by the editor panel or by a site wide vote.

Good idea. What would be the prereqs for entering? I think 500 posts and six months is a good threshold. Any less than that and people could not have had the full TTP experience. I.e, they haven't had a genuine disagreement and communicated through it.

That sounds good. Though I'd write for ages, and then come to the conclusion that if I write something else it'd be better.

How does having disagreement at TTP make you a veteran or member of the community? This isn't debate club...

There are plenty of people who would be able to share amazing teamwork stories. The kind of "movie moments" of team work that BigDog described in his post in the reservist forum...

Why have a post threshold or a time threshold? I knew that TTP was where I wanted to be after about 2 weeks in the forums. What about those people who join specifically because of something amazing happening on the servers?

Setting such an arbitrary threshold is counterproductive to the idea of the contest.

Sometimes this belief that post count equals value to the community sickens me. It's total crap. There are plenty of people who have a low post count that have way more value then people with 5000+ posts. All a post count means is that someone has been around a long time and/or post to every topic you can see.

People with more time here may know eachother better. A good TTP story isn't about pwning or being top-cat. I don't care about posts, but I know Ed and me, and alot of you regulars have had many of these so called "movie moments" The more playtime, the better story.

If those beliefs sickens you, try take a quick look around some posts. No offense.

I'm not arguing that people with a lot of posts don't know TTP better then those without.

What I'm saying is that the value of that person should be that same. People should be judged on what they contribute to TTP as a community and not by a number tacked next to their name.

There are numerous examples of people with a post count less then 1000 or even less then 500 that are contributing to TTP in enormous ways.

A requirement of 500 post eliminates a number of our admins from this competition...

I agree. Things that sickens me though is people who think teamwork is about getting 100s of points, and that is not a good story. I know I may be on deep waters, but this is just my opinion. I'm not saying just because you've been here long you don't hunt for points.. But it has just seemed like that these days. Still, no offense.
