My only consern is what will happen when L4D is old news (many game's shelf life can be measured in months, this may last longer, but I don't see it being as popular or mod-able as MP RtCW and it's sequel ET.

The Source Engine is one of the most modded engines there is. It has been since 2004 and it's still being used for new games/mods and future games as well.

As for Left 4 Dead. Well, It's only been four months and we still have official DLC coming, updates, both console and PC, as well as multiple mods in the works. You say a few months, I say years. :)

And I don't see L4D dying down any time soon so long as Valve look after it... it'll be like CS, just, hopefully with less whiny 12 year olds and more new content >.>
