Thread: A Tourney like no tourney like all other tourneys.

Allow myself to introduce...myself. I am Coheed, long time player on tpg, first time major thought contributor.

Now that the pleasantries are done, lets get giggy with the business.

I know there is a 1v1 tourney coming up, but I would like to propose a tournament for the 2012 Summer Olympics.

I think the tournament should be based on heats, such as the 100m dash or the soccer brackets, more so the soccer brackets, where everyone in the heat plays each other and when everyone has finished playing each other, the two teams with the highest win ratio go on to the single elimination bracket until the winner is decided.
Now I am fairly flexible on the single or double elimination idea.

For tie breakers to leave the group/heat one match to decide them all, one match to rule them all, random lotr reference. EVEN if team A beat team B previously, they still have to play again on a new map.

Once all teams are out of the group/heat stage, people will fall into brackets and once they are in brackets it can be single elimination or double elimination.

There is no best of three or best of seven, its one shot, do or die, WIn or cry, live free or die hard..wait not that last one, you get one attempt to win the final, if you lose your done! If you win, hey you won!

This will be like the last tourney in that we would have a draft. I think their should be a snake round. So, that means that everyone on the first round to pick gets one pick, but the last guy to pick gets three picks and then everyone else gets two at a time until its done.

if you dont like that idea, then tell me. I am open to all suggestions. I want to see this get done!

Let me know what u think. I will post a picture of the brackets and how it will play out later.

Sounds cool. You might try the match forum for CSS, but an admin can always move it if needed. More tournaments are always fun.

Yeah, it could be depending on the size of the groups. I planned on like 12 teams, hopeful I know, so in theory you could have 3 teams in each group with a maximum of 3 games,if there was a tie, played by each team in the heat mode. Then with 8 teams advancing at a single elimination The bracket would produce at maximum 3 games for the winner, so if you tie and win out you play a maximum of 6 games. The majority of teams would play 2- 4 games. So if you calculate the average of 3 times 12 you get 36 matches which is a large endeavor. Or you could be more exact and say that 4 teams will not advance, so 2 games, 8 teams will advance, so at least 3 games, then 4 teams advance for 1 more game. Then finally the last two play the championship. If you add a few tiebreakers, let's say four and add in all other games you get a grand total of 35 games. I guess that's a lot to coordinate! Lol

Well, I think it's perfect timing with summer coming up and all. It might be the last for a while since GO should be coming out relatively soon.

If you did it as a 3v3 like we did before you could likely get 16 teams. The you would have 4 groups of 4. Each team would play 3 matches in the group phase, and with 8 teams going to the bracket you would play a max of 3 games in the bracket.

As for the tie-breaker in the group phase I would do round differential. So if you have 2 teams tied, the team that won more total rounds in their 3 matches would be ahead.

Yeah I like that idea. That's even more like soccer , in that, if teams have the same point total at the end of the group phase the team advances by the goal differenitial. I also like the 3v3 because I don't know how many people would be able to commit to this. If we did a 5v5, with some alternates on a team, we would need like 96 people. Which would never happen!! That assumes a 8 man roster with 12 teams. Where as if you get 5 people on a roster, you would only need 80 people for 16 teams. It would depend on the interest level. I think the last tourney had 80 some people in it.
