I have installed a new addon designed to reduce forum spam, which references the StopForumSpam.com database of known spammers.

During registration, the user's IP address, email address and username is compared against an enormous and constantly-updated database of known spammers. If any of the three fields match the data in StopForumSpam.com's database, the registration is denied.

I'm hopeful that this tool will help to dramatically reduce the amount of spambot postings here on L4DF, and make all of your jobs much easier and less tedious.

    Fingers crossed!

Indeed. Just by way of information, one of the users (whose name escapes me - I think it MAY have been Crimson Phantasm) did report that he was occasionally getting an 'IP banned' message when browsing. From looking at his posted addresses in ACP, he's probably using a ISP with dynamic IPs, and it'll be hard to tie it down to which address it is.
Either way, he did say it was only a very intermittent thing and was easily solved.
    Just a heads up.

Those intermittent "IP Banned" messages were probably related to the huge list of spammer IPs that I added to vB's internal blocked IP list, not something related to this new anti-spam tool.

In less than 12 hours, the new anti-spam tool has already prevented over 250 spambots from registering on the forum!

So far, I am very happy with the results, especially because the forum spam assholes really seemed to have ramped up their attacks during the past few weeks.

Yeah, this was some time ago that he reported it, just your bringing up of the topic reminded me.
