We have a system in place that leaves us an option for both at the moment.
However, both sides have drawbacks.
The problem with ranking individually is that the process of submitting scores and working out individual rankings is a little more complicated than I'd like - basically because there isn't a pre-existing modification that does that kind of thing, I've come up with a workaround, but it's a little cumbersome and we're looking to see if there's a more efficient way of doing it.
To answer your question though, yes - it's worked out via 4 vs 4 matches.
On the other hand, with ranking by team, we can very easily set things so that there's a subforum where members can create and recruit for their own personal teams. If we set this so that a certain set of criteria have to be met (let's just say... 100 posts on the forums as an example) before you can create a team, that's going to prevent a lot of jackasses from taking part, because if they're douchebags, they'll be found out and banned long before they reach 100 posts. Members with less than 100 posts would still be able to join teams, they just wouldn't be able to create them.

Someone with 3,000+ posts will be taken more seriously than someone with 2 posts?.
Well with Ladders it's almost inevitable that people over from CG will see it and join, so there has to be something of a strict stance on attitude and behavior for the players, Team or Individual.
Anyone is free to join and take part, that much is true. But if they're a douchebag to others, violating rules and using their wins as bragging rights like a majority of CG, they'll find themselves being ejected from the Ladder and banned from the forum i think.
But the premise of the Ladder, i like, It brings the Forumers together and introduces friendship through competition. Plus it gives less skilled players a chance to play with the more skilled players and in turn learn a thing or two!. I know this Ladder is all for fun and lolz, but something is telling me that once a year we should play for prizes, that kind of thing.
Our input has remained invaluable, and it just goes to show what great things can happen when the community gets together.

Yeah it took awhile. Can either Redemption or Hillbilly send me the final point systems for both games? I know I worked on L4D2s point system but Hill said he had to revise it so I wanna see how that went.

Technically, we're actually ready to go right now. However, there's a few little kinks we just need to straighten first. If you held a gun to my head, I'd probably say to expect the first games to be arranged the other side of the weekend, but to be honest, it could be before then, it could be after.
Yeah, we're just working on finalising the L4D2 points system. We're happy with L4D1's, we're just making sure L4D2 is nicely balanced.
Yeah, this has been designed not only to give the existing members something to get into and to play for (because bragging rights are everything ), but to attract new members looking for some decent L4D action with friendly players.
Of course there's a risk that we're also going to attract the less desirable aspect of the competitive gaming community, but as I'm sure you're all aware that the staff are pretty good at dealing with those that aren't quite so community-minded as the rest of us.
As far as prizes are concerned, the modification we're using has the capability to run knockout-style tournaments, and from time to time we might well run tournament to find out who the best team on L4DF is in a cup/playoff style format.

Congratulations. It's a shame I quit L4D or I'd be on it like flies to shit. I'd just have had the guys I played with join and we'd be crackin'. Brings more users to the forums too I bet.
