Re: All Pick-Up Games Canceled Until Further Notice
Why did this topic get merged, This was simply a notification topic, if this is going to be a discussion topic it certainly does not warrant a sticky......
As far as restarting the PUGS damain just for the record I dont personally remember you playing in many PUG's (i maybe wrong though). PUG's do take alot of effort to set up and yes insane as well as others here have done many of these in the past. It's not really a question of who can or will set them up. The real question is who will particpate and what pool of players are we going to draw from. Yes i know we have recently seen a surge in population in the pub server with many people coming back to DoD and we certainly like seeing that...... But when thinking outside of the regular server we just dont have the numbers of interested people anymore to play the weekly matches. Yes when insane was setting them up and running them the population dropped to 3 people if that, showing up to a 20 man match. It became a real waste for him to chose a map, download the map to the server, and get the match server up and running for such a small amount of particpates.
Lets not forget these problems also:
1. people posting they were going to show up and not showing.
2. people not having the map already downloaded
3. people who did have the map having to wait on the ones who didn't.
4. people not liking the map selected.
5. match never started on the time posted in the topic in these forums (reasons mentioned in # 1 thru 3) and we are not talking minute delays sometimes and hour late start time.
The above listed five items are the reasons why people got discouraged and stopping particpated in the matches. As far as the class restrictions that guyver mentioned i personally dont think that was much of an issue with the dwiddling match population, because class restrictions is part of any semi competitive or competitive match. People have to learn different weapons classes and this makes them do that. Will they not play in the match or play less matches if they get chucked a weapon they are not good at maybe, but it will also help them take up other weapons in the regular pub game setting which will make them a better rounded player in game.

Some possible ideas so solve the issues if we start them again.
1. people posting they were going to show up and not showing.
2. people not having the map already downloaded
3. people who did have the map having to wait on the ones who didn't.
4. people not liking the map selected.
5. match never started on the time posted in the topic in these forums (reasons mentioned in # 1 thru 3) and we are not talking minute delays sometimes and hour late start time.
-Simple listing and organization didn't seem to work, So have games spread out more, and more time to list people, get times, and choose teams in the forums, rather then waiting. (I don't know how much we can get to picking teams one by on in the forums.)
-Your late you don't play...Server locks 5 min after starting time?
-PLAY THE MAP BEFORE HAND...learn the basics of the map, launch it up in single player learn some routes get your bearing and general directions. only takes 5-10min for a player...10-20 if you are going to be captain.
-And not to be mean...SUCK IT UP...yes some of the maps sucked, we are playing new custom maps that we haven't played before, so we can learn if they're good or play well. Play it, Then we can discuss the faults on the map. These things get you more familiar with the game and play styles. Some are good some aren't. Even if a map is one sided, we get to play both sides, So the match is still fair.

When i used to play in pugs a while back there wasn't much talk about it, just one thread that had people say "im in" and had links to the map and what not, but if we got a little more serious/professional about it and included some of the rules insane posted (have games spread out, and more time to list people, you dont post you dont play, etc etc) who knows this could work.
We dont necessarily have to start pugs again but maybe we can have a test pug and see if its worth it or not to take another step forward
