    Re: Civiliziations 4

Heh, nice work Civil. Watch out, this game can be very involved.

I like to play on a large (not huge) map, with the terra map type and using the Marathon setting.

The terra map type makes terrain similar to how our planet is laid out. All the players (AI and Human) civs start on one continent group one one side of the world. Meanwhile the empty continent across the ocean as well as the numerous islands become populated by barbarian tribes. By the time you cross the ocean you will find well developed barbarian cities that you can capture with your superior technology and then convert them all to your religion and bring in corporations etc. Sound eerily familar? It's a blast though cause it's a race to the new world and then a decent fight sometimes when you get there.

The marathon setting makes it so the number of turns increases while timeframe does not. This allows for much better primitive war. in the faster settings by the time you get your units to another city you are making units back home that are far superior (as are your enemies) and it does not make for good stone/bronze age battles.

Yeah, I was limited to like 500 turns for the game, and I have about 60 left. I was way ahead of the AI, but they were on the second easiest setting. I was battling wooden ships with cruise destroyers and stealth bombers. I also set off about 5 nukes. And I took over a region, but put a sub-leader in charge. Pretty cool stuff.

I have it....but only played it once, so I'm still a noob. I'd join the fray.

LMAO we all get into our vent server and trash talk eachother as we get going. We should plan for an some sort of marathon. God, but we'll have to put limits on the turn times cuz if we have 6 people playing and each turn takes 30 minutes...you can see where I am going.

Is it a hard game to grasp because I'm considering picking it up.

the basics are really simple. your cities need food to grow and produce money to support scientific research.

the more complicated stuff is easy to understand if you read the manual.

if you do get it the expansion pack (Beyond the Sword not Warlords cuz you get Warlords with Beyond the Sword) is a must too. adds like 8 more civilizations and 20 leaders

So I should pick up Beyond the Sword and not Warlords, do I need the original Civilizations 4 to be able to play Beyond the sword?
