Thread: What the hell is this?

Can anyone tell me what this fruit/vegetable is? I randomly bought it at the store and can't remember what it was. I thought it was in the pear section. The damn thing tastes like a carrot crossed with a pear. I don't know it that's normal or not. Do you eat the skin? Either way I am eating this so if you don't hear from me in 48hrs send a search party.

Damn I just tried it again and it's just like a carrot! Strangest damn fruit/vegetable I have ever had.

I want to say mango.

Looks like a mango. And maybe a little underripe... they are a pain in the ass to use when they are ripe because they are squishy and do not peel/cut easily.

I aree with Mango, but I thought the flesh was supposed to be a little darker. Maybe it has to do with what Soy said about it being under ripe.

I agree with the mango suggestion. Where do you live that you dont know what a mango is? I guess I take my paradise life (florida) for granted. When theyre just right they are soooooooooooooo delicious. But they are very mushy so if im at the house I peel it up and cut little cubes or slices that you can pick up neatly with the knife. or if your on the street or at the beach, just peel that sucker up and start biting away.

I like to get frozen mango and puree it in my fruit/soy smoothies... mmmm goodness.

My fruit/vegetable knowledge is lacking thanks to my fast food diet. I am really trying to cut down and eat more healthier foods. I get get Asian pears which are one of my favorites. hmmm maybe I have the receipt. Let me see.

So after looking at wiki I see that a ripe mango is yellow. The one I ate was all green and red. Do I put it in the fridge or leave it out to ripen. Damn I am such a food noob.

Yes mangos are super sweet.. when they are ripe! And they are a bit squishy and orange when they are ripe . That looked a lot like an underripe mango.

As a cuban american this fruit was abundant in my household growing up.

This is my favorite fruit of all time. You are eating it way to early so it will not be as sweet and juicy wait for it to be mostly red.
