Big Carl Good and Bad News

Fisrt of all. Big Carl is up and running properly now. Loaded BF2 and my DDO game..both look great...Big change to BF2 graphics then what I played on. LOL....

    However.....

    Micrpohone Problems.

Last night I spent 4 hours..trying to fix it for today. On this forums...I've tried..

1- Yep, Dex...Microphone Works....works fine on my old XP computer.

2- Soy- Went to BIOS and I have no option for disabe onboard sound. Went to Device Manager and I do have two sound devices. I have the SoundBlaster X-Fi and Realtek....Tried enable/disable combo's didnt work.

3- Tried using every port...Sound Card Port, Rear Ports, Front Ports...

    4- I tried everything I red about...

When I go to Control Panel Sound.....Like in Dusty's Problem....I see the green bar going up and down

Basically when I go sound, recording, microphone I see the green bar going up and down when I talk. When I go into game or try to test microphone io Vista setup I dont hear anything.

Suggestions? I tried and tonn of things so Im not going to list them all.......Pleasee post everything and I will try them all again. I must of missed something easy to try. I spent time on Microspoft Forums, Soundblaster Forums, different google searchs..

    Oh one more thing.....

Anyone know why, when I am typing a post here and I get to the bottom of the post box while typing, it doesnt scroll up so I can see what I am typing?

It just jiggles up and down as I type.

After two more hours I have progress....I found my recording feature. I was able to record my voice and play it back....but I still cannot hear it though my speakers while I am saying it.....which also means I cannot use any Voice Programs in game.

But that alone tells me the machine is hearing me, mic works....just have to get it to play in the speakers.

It is probably you need to set the default play device that was the problem I had when I went to Vista, for some reason it wanted to put my voice through the midi device which of coarse didn't work for BF2.

Hey jeep, I didn't know that you were running an Creative X-Fi card.

I had nothing but trouble trying to use a mic through mine. Now, I just use the on board (motherboard) for the mic and the sound card for surround. No problems since I switched to that method.

Not sure if it is related to Creative or BF2, they just don't mix... for me at least. Hope this helps.

Creative + Vista + BF2 = No workee. I had my share of problems with this combo, but now everything is operating ok.

It was good to see you on the server again. You're a formidable SL and I usually run into your squad.

Ok.....well here what you have to do...this is going to sound very stupid. I read it and said "what? this will never work".

Go to the in game version of test mic.

Start singing or something with constant noise.

Then click the "test button" while noise is going through your mic.

For some reason thats the only way it picks it up.

I read that on the forums and didnt even take it serious. Then I got desperate and tried it and it worked. I dont even think I can find it again to show a link. I think it might of been off Tactical Gamers website.

    Thanks for the responses.
