Ok so I know it is a little ways away but I do have to make a decision for spring break. (No beach trips lol, I mean last year I went to DC for the musems and tours)
I have two offers from my school that I can go on trips.
First of which is ASB or Alternative Spring Break. It is a big program on campus with 5 different locations that do service. 2 to Virginia, 1 to the Bronx, 1 to East Camden and one to Alabama. Service depends on location, city locations tend to be social stuff like teaching english, soup kitchens and the like. The more rural/suburban is stuff like habitat for humanity construction landscaping etc. I do not pick where I go but I will be with 10-20 students at one of the locations. It will be $75 for a trip with a lot of amazing experiences.
The second trip is also a course which I do, or should have room for next semester. The couse is part of the Religious Studies department's Christian, Jewish and Muslim relations program (only 1 of the 2 world wide programs, many schools have Christian Jewish type but not all three). I will learn about muslim culture, the history of the region and its ties to my school, my school is an Augustinian school and Saint Augustine was born in Algeria and his ministry was there. So we will travel to Algeria and visit sites and meet students and so on. As this is a unique program in the world, the school has gotten grants and donations to do things like this. Also the Algerian Government is helpping pay/organize the program, which is pretty cool. Their desire is to increase awareness that muslim does not mean Arab and so on. So with aid of grants and the Algerian govt, this trip is free, flights, hotel, meals.
So what should I do? Free international trip that I just need to get my passport for. Or a service experience that I pay next to nothing for, and stay domestic?

I would go with door number two. Things like that are life experiences that you may not have the opportunity to do again and you wouldn't want to think back 10 years from now regretting that you did not go. The first option is nice but you can visit those locations with relative ease compared to going to Algeria.
