02-14-11, 12:44 PM #1So upgrade time
I've got myself a tax refund coming, some savings and 0% interest line of credit for 12 months through newegg. Time to go up in the world and ditch the Pentium D I've been running for the past 5 years.
Case: Newegg.com - Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
MoBo: Newegg.com - ASUS Sabertooth X58 LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
Vid Card: Newegg.com - EVGA 01G-P3-1366-TR GeForce GTX 460 SE (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card
PSU: Newegg.com - Antec TruePower New TP-750 750W Continuous Power ATX12V V2.3 / EPS12V V2.91 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC "compatible with Core i7/Core i5" Power Supply
CPU: Newegg.com - Intel Core i7-950 Bloomfield 3.06GHz 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor BX80601950
Memory: Newegg.com - CORSAIR Vengeance 12GB (3 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMZ12GX3M3A1600C9
HDD x 2: Newegg.com - Western Digital Caviar Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
DVD: Newegg.com - LG Black 24X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 16X DVD+R DL 24X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM SATA DVD Burner - Bulk LightScribe Support - CD / DVD Burners
Subtotal: $1,214.91
I can go into Micro Center to get the CPU $100 cheaper so if Newegg will not give me a price match I'll just go there and grab it (see savings lol).
Total: $1,114.91 + S/H (and maybe ~$12, Tax on the CPU)

Re: So upgrade time
Looks good to me, but I'm not as big of a PC enthusiast as some around here.
One thing I would recommend though is looking into those ridiculously inexpensive solid state drives. Even if it is smaller than you would like, using an SSD for your primary drive and even one of the drives from your current machine has a backup or media storage drive will be a huge improvement in your boot time and loading time in various games.

Ditto, I picked up 2 of the Corsair F60 SSD's at Fry's who price matched newegg for just over $200 minus the $40 MIR. I use one on my primary systems as the OS drive and the other one went to my wifes laptop. The speed of the one drive out performs my old RAID 0 config with 2nd GEN Raptor drives.

thanks for the suggestions. I might go for one in the between of this and my next machine but right now they are too expensive $$ to GB for my wallet. I've just ordered the parts. I believe they should arrive sometime on Thursday or Friday. Then I can build :-)
