Being in a clan that uses it... VERY handy little program. I would advise ya get it... even if for no better reason than some between the rounds smack talk durring scrims and shit... or taunting your fellow clan mates if their on the opposite team and you make a badass kill on them

I have seen vent used very effectively for coordinating multiple squads, plus it's great to talk smack to your homey on the OpFor when you shank his ass!

Please forgive my ingnorance here as I don't use Vent, but wouldn't that give someone an advantage above and beyond what BF2 allows? For instance, BF2 only allows you to speak verbally within your squad - not among different multiple squads. To talk to multiple squads you must then type.

I don't mean to start any flames what-so-ever, I just want to make sure we're all in the clear here.

Evolution uses a vent server, but only for scrims and matches when we're on the same team. I was under the impression that the use of vent on TTP servers is forbidden, whether you're ghosting or not. Please correct me if I'm wrong, simply because if we have 6 or 7 of us on, only 5 of us can scrim at once. The remaining 1 or 2 go play on TTP servers, but we always get out of vent before we do so. Or sometimes we'll finish up a practice/scrim/match and we'll ALL go play TTP, at which point, we all hop out of vent.

This has been discussed to death in some past threads!

Heres the resolution as far as I know:
In games where you die and can spectate (like CS:S) it is a bannable offense because people can give away locations of enemies to their living teammates; AKA "ghosting."
In BF2, it can give you an edge, but the action is fast paced, you can already VOIP when dead, and you will respawn shortly. So there is a fine line, but for cross-squad communication, last time I asked, was fine. Just dont do it in other engines where ghosting is a possibility. Basically it's an admin call and on case by case basis; but in CSS (and I assume other source games where VOIP is disabled between the dead and living) there is no reason for it except to cheat.
