Re: Why do we tolerate scum?
i think all celebrities should be taken out back and shot. especially the ones who are famous for just being rich (cough paris hilton cough) i loved oj. i put him in a group with michael jackson. what a waste. i think our society is really fucked up the way we idolize people who are just wasting space on this earth. you want a role model? try my dad. he's been a firefighter for over 30 years. never asked for a bit of recognition or thanks. he just does his job to the best of his ability everyday cause he cares. teachers, cops, volunteers, the mail man. those should be our role models. not over paided egomaniacs who would rather buy their chiuahuas diamond studded collars and butt plugs than help out a fellow human being. *cleans sniper rifle*

Re: Why do we tolerate scum?
I know that stuff like blind violence, pedofilia, rape is horrible. I also understand that it can awaken the rage in people. Also that how can a prison term compensate for a lost or destroyed life.
But as for the "eye for an eye" type of justice being advocated here. Move to Saudia Arabia, Iran or Sudan. They have it, it's called Sharia Law, and I think we all agree they seem like wonderful countries to live in, no?
People seem to forget why we have the justice system we do in the western world. But if you are wrongfully accused of shoplifting in Saudia Arabia, you bet you long for home, 'cause your hand is gone forever. Or better yet, being stoned to death for sleeping with a woman who swore she wasn't married...
So my point is this: It's all right to be angry. But while our justice system is flawed, it is infinitely better than the alternative. For when the One Great Scorer comes, to write against your name, he writes not that you won or lost, but how you played the Game
