I've been in both L4D and L4D2 playing something like versus co-op in the past with a few commands entered into the console to make the survivors bots. The biggest problem I have ever run into that I can't figure out how to fix is having bot survivors activate and complete cresendos. Usually I will have to become a survivor again myself and make them go through it otherwise they just stand around confused or run in circles. It's kind of amusing to watch for a minute then it gets old fast.
The point is that in order to have versus co-op they will have to figure out a way to fix that problem. Hopefully without making it so the bots start activating cresendos and finales before the players are ready in the normal co-op, single player and versus modes.
I'm curious however to know what Shotgun means by "not quite" though.

The big question is: are they working on it, or have they decided it's not possible or not worth it. Only valve knows the answer.
Hopefully without making it so the bots start activating cresendos and finales before the players are ready in the normal co-op, single player and versus modes.
Now that I think of it, that brings up another point. If they figure out how to do it, will/should they allow the bots to continue after all of the players are dead. In that case bots should only operate switches when no players are alive.

I've been saying that since I first died back on the original Left 4 Dead. It's stupid that the A.I. knows how to defend themselves and help team mates, but they arent programmed to do anything else.
They should be programmed to survive after the human players have died, or at least have the option to be turned on or off. I often find myself, in offline campaign mode, healing myself and quickly steal all the pain killers and adrenaline shots for myself because when I die it's game over and when the CPU dies they just respawn. This nullifies the teamwork aspect that Valve set up.
The computer should progress normally untill the player(s) respawn in a closet and should also be programmed to take and use shock paddles. I understand that Valve wants us to play online but maybe we don't want to? Back in the day, single player was all FPS players had. They assume that we all want to play online now whenever we play and it's a very wrong assumption.
