Thing is bad ass, kicks the M16's and M4's ass, that's for sure. This is my issued weapon because I have the highest rifle qual score in the fireteam... errah!

I dont get it. How does it kick the m16's ass when its an m-16 4 inches shorter? It even uses the same mags much less rounds as the m-16. I also find it shitty on our part going from a US weapon to a Germany copy cat.

I believe it's just because it has much better quality parts, ie the barrel and a free-floating rail system. It's more accurate than an M16 by quite a bit, though not really on paper, but in real-world experience. I do think it's strange that we went to HK for it, but we've always gone to the lowest bidder, have we not? Who knows. All I know is this thing rocks, and is very accurate and reliable. Even bought a couple of EMAGS to throw at it over the next 4 weeks as we train with Force Recon for a shooting package... should be a good time!

Also the gas piston system is something to take into consideration... the gas exits through a port around half-way up the barrel instead of inside the chamber. There are lots of little things about this baby that I like.

Interesting. I mean it is on paper a inferior weapon. The 4 in loss shortens its effective range but then again how many times do people really need a point shot at 500 yards? Its not reality for what we need right now. The m16 was a better built weapon for those distance shots and accuracy but that was also the same thing that made it jam. It just couldn't handle the dirt. I can see how a weapon built less tight could make a better weapon even while losing its accuracy and distance. Granted the loss on accuracy is very minimal within its target range.

On a side note they still scoring the same as 20 years ago? My highest score was 246. Not to shabby for a winger.

The point target for the M27 is the same as the M16 (550m) But the area is 100m less (700m) on paper. However, like I was saying, during a defense op a couple of weeks ago I was accurately engaging a target about 700-800m out and holding a relatively tight group (for that distance)... tighter than I could ever do with the M16.

No, I think there is somewhat of a new scoring system now, it goes up to 350 for Table I and II combined, 305+ being expert. I shot a 330 with iron sights, but when we requal it will be with the ACOG so I'm sure I'll get a better score! Did you know that they don't even use iron sights in basic training at all anymore? Our company was one of the last to go through with iron sights. Crazy, huh?

You are right on the point target. I had to look and see it was the area target that was shorter.

I wonder if im wrong on the scoring. I would have to pull out my records for that. I thought it was 250 maybe it was 350. So i either scored a 246 or 346 but all my shit is packed up so no digging that shit out right now. Is it at least 10,10,10 at 200 and 10,10 at 300 then 10 at 500?

Really no iron sights in boot camp? What happens when the shit breaks in the field? That makes no sense. I remember when i was in they stopped teaching boxing in boot camp. I just dont see getting rid of shit making better Marines. Man the iron sights irritates me. Thats a basic firing skill right there. It makes no sense to get rid of it.

Yeah, I don't agree with it either. But apparently the shit doesn't break much. And your score is probably correct, I know for a fact that there is an "old" and a "new" scoring system and that we use the new one.
