    Game Review

    Civ 4...

Just recently bought Sid Meier's Civilization 4 some time ago. Wondering if anyone else has it.

    Summary:
My initial trials was confusing and I didn't understand the purpose of the game. Therefore, I was about to cry that I just wasted $50 bucks. It was probably because I didn't read about the game or have played any previous Civ games. So, after putting it the time to a game it is fucking addicting.

    Basics:
    Cost - $50
    Play style - Turn based
Purpose of the games - To conquor the world through cultural, political, or warlord.
Setting: Start off at 4000BC and advance all the way to robotics (2200ish AD).
Could be compared to: Age of Empires series, Caesar series, Empire Earth series
Difficulty: Very easy to very very hard

    Game Review:
You start out with a warrior and a settler during 4000BC. You use your settler to build a city and progress through research units/buildings. Each unit or building provide benefits (some provide benefits and deficits). While your town researches it's own technology, the player, chooses technology in which will advance your whole nation. Some of these include religion, paper, bronze working, iron working, computers, satelites, etc...

Units: The settler you start out with will be able to create units. Most of these units are for warfare. All are not though; some of these units you can create are settlers. Mentioned before, settlers allow you to create more towns (very important). Then those towns may start advancing. There are workers that improve your land, which I'll explain later. Also, there are religious units that may be used for different reasons.

    Towns:
Towns are created by settlers. Each town has it's own research bar. Researching includes adding buildings/units to your town such as units, barracks, graneries, temples, castles, science buildings, harbors, bunkers, airports, etc... Each add an ability to help the town such as adding culture, providing religion, adding hapiness to the population, adding defense, and so forth.

    Culture:
Each town has boundaries. These boundaries grow or shrink on the amount of culture your town has. This is very important for economic reasons. Why, because on your boundaries is the land your workers may improve. Improved land provides food, luxuries (leather, spices, fur, gems, etc...), and money. All of these are essential to your towns populace.

    Religion:
Religion is important for multiple reasons. It may be used for cultural needs or political needs. There is multiple religions in the game such has taoism, judaism, hinduism, christianity, etc... Towns have the ability to create religious structures and in return add culture. To me, religion is most fun while using it for political needs. The player has the choice to declare or not declare their nation's religion. There are benefits for both of these. If you declare a religion you will gain favor from opposing nations who share the same religion and will be disliked by nations who don't share the same religion. If you don't declare a religion you remain somewhat "nuetral". However, you don't gain allies which may cost you economically and you don't recieve help while defending or declaring war. Final note, you may spread your religion through religious units.

    War: Self-explanatory

I don't feel like typing anymore but that is the basics. I rate this game a 4.5/5.0 because of it's diversity and it's very addicting.

If you like action packed, fast paced game you may not enjoy this game. It is a thinking, turn by turn game, not a reacting game. If this doesn't bother you then I strongly recommend buying this game.

I would really enjoy playing with someone because it would be fun to manipulate the politics in the game. Let me know.

I agree. Never understood the draw of a turnbased game like Civ. with Rise of nations, and starcraft, and CC, and warcraft, and and and and and adnandandndanad showing that turnbased is old school and unnecessary.......never understood the civilaztion series.

I don't have time to wait my turn. If the enemy isn't ready to play, then they lose.

.....RTS = "real time strategy". That means you can go fight the war whenever you want.

if you didn't play classics like starcraft, warcraft, or any of the command and conquers, age of _____ by MS, or rise of nations....then you missed out. Seriously. Broaden your gaming horizons and check out the classics.

it's like watching old movies. doesn't matter that it was made in 1972, with an absence of special effects or ridiculous action gunfights. "The Godfather" is a classic, and everyone should see it. Same thing goes with classic games, books, art, wahtever.

Oh ive had my share of those, I would always get about 3 or for soldiers up before the other guys army would come rape my little village. I never really was good at starcraft or warcraft. Although some of the channels my mom watches shows south korean kids who make 600 movements a minute in those games, really freaks me out .

Would you consider it similar to the Total War Games, campaign mode being turn based.

    Re: Game Review

Wow BigDog, i luv you even more now. Starcraft and Warcraft were my introduction to on-line gaming. Its all about fast thinking, microing, STRATEGY! Still now in Korea it is the biggest thing, they even consider it a sport. I was close to being able to go there for a tournament but just didn't have the money. To this day i play it once in a while, the only bad thing now (like in any other game) is the hackers. I'm not up to date to how Blizzard is taking control of that but hopefully they have found a solution. Get into the rst's, loads of fun and competition. It may seem gay at first for all you noobs but once you get into it you can't stop. Starcraft 2 is coming soon also, so i suggest that if you do get into SC to start off now before pt 2 comes... competition is hard out there. Like in CSS and cal there is Ladder in SC. Basically the same thing but it is a 1v1 match. You gain points buy however many wins you have had. http://blizzard.com/us/ Blizzard has made some of the most popular games out there, don't know why all of you have not played/love these games at all... and you call yourselves gamers...pffft.

I have mentioned this before in a post, i would not mind getting TTP into SC. It is totally a teamplay game.

    DO IT!!!
