I don't think that my teacher likes me anymore because she found me reading, Lolita. A story about some guy that rapes children... huh.

    wellllll...

seeing that you're reading Lolita could be a little disturbing, depending upon the grade you're in.

It's a really good book, though.

Well my english teacher made me read 1984 by george orwell and I was like, fuck that. But in the end I read it and was completely intrigued by the book, thought it was one of the best books ive ever read.

So I would put that in the books not to read at school, but if you happen to read it, then maybe you will feel the same way as i did.

well in order to understand ideals of the third reich better for a paper i was writing in history class, i had to read a couple chapters of Mein Kampf. That shit was fucked up, and I had to talk with my teacher for a while after each chapter i read because they (all the history teachers, about 6 of them) were afraid of the power of that book and that it would corrupt my mind. And I will say that it is easy to get sucked into those ideals. Thats a book you dont want to read in school.

Wow Duddy, narrow minded, fuck face, brainwashin teachers! I read Mein Kampf a couple of years ago out of curiousity. Hitler was a political genius, a crazy psychopath genius. I very much disagree with his ideals, but what he did affected the world and to turn a blind eye to that is ignorant. For instance, take the clan's name The Chozen. While spelled differently, Hitler often refered his "clean" or "supreme" race as "The Chosen Ones". (messin around).

Anyways, good book I'm reading now is a book by the author Lee Child. It's called "Bad Luck and Trouble". You like crime mysteries with revenge, check it out!

In highschool, we read The Bluest Eye. It's a very good book but involves the graphic description of the rape of an 11 year old by her father. The day we did the Socratic seminar on it, we had the PTA from a school thinking of starting an IB program in the classroom to observe. That was awkward giving that the description was quoted very matter of factually to make a point about the reason behind the rape and why Toni Morrison thought she failed writing the book.

Of course, in the 2nd grade, I read the Dune series and learned about sex that way so...
enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P

Re: Books not to read at school

I'm glad to see we've still got people reading in this world!

I had to dispute a fine on books @ the library on campus the other day. I had checked out I, Claudius by Robert Graves awhile back and, whilst debating the fine, the librarian said to me, "You know, that book has a very high vocabulary level." ...while walking out, it made me think, "Was she, based on the common population, assuming that the vocabulary in that book was too difficult for my understanding?" That didn't bother me. What bothered me was the fact that some people graduating from our high schools WOULDN'T be able to understand/comprehend that book.
