I think it would look best centered. I believe you can remove the SMF logo by searching the index.template.php file for 'smflogo.gif' and removing it.
we will be having a contest again, soon enough. and likely, we will get back in the habit of centering the banner, meaning it can be as wide as 800 or even 1000px. Good job making it transition though.

Post up your work here in the artwork forum....and get ready. This summers banner contest is going to be fun (prizes like 8800GT's and CPUs and cash).

The transition or blending issue can be fixed in the template or the css. It's just a matter of lining the image up right. It can have a transparent background with a PNG file which would fix the problem and require no alignment. However, IE doesn't display PNG files correctly. The transparent part shows up as a light grey. I believe you can put a string of code in the template that would 'fix' this for IE. (IE doesn't follow the w3c rules and can be a nuisance to code for) You can read all about the IE PNG problem here: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/bobosola/ It's a worthy read if you want to use transparency in your web images. It also provides a solution that fixes the IE bug. GIF transparency works fine but GIFs are better suited for small images because they are limited to 256 colors.

wouldnt it be easiest to make the background transparent.. rather trying to match the background. al he would have to do is flush it with the bottom

    Noo!
I like Jello's, the logo is what drew me to the site and what had me exploring the threads and stuff. It just..drew me in. AND as Panic said, it represents all of the games we play here, we're a community, therefore "No One Stands Alone" is very cool.

Personally I thought bigdog had paid somebody to do that banner.

Good Job Jello, I hope you win!

    Re: New website banner

Here is one I am working on. Speaks to the spirit of the site and not any particular game. All good branding says what you are, without going into detail.

With similar background color as site

    No background color

    Different tag line

    Re: New website banner

Chosen's by a long shot. Jello's is nice, but there's way too much crap going on in it. Chosen's is clean and efficient; Jello's is confused and ghastly with so many different colors running around on it.

I don't know why Chosen added a second star on the right side, though; the Texas state flag only has the one star on the left.
