    L4D Map Recruiting. Artists and Map-makers needed!

    I am looking to create a L4D map of professional quality. Such quality is impossible to do by myself so I am asking you, artists and game-enthusiasts of TTP, come and let's create a map worthy of valve itself.


    The map I have in mind is a direction that valve did not take, a sub-urban journy.

    Just another day... In HELL...


    I am looking to make this map with animations and new things that have not been seen before in L4D, like a person who knows he is infected hanging himself. Car's flying and skidding on the ground. (Personally, I love the animation part ). Some of these things we will have to wait for the SDK to see what we can do, but I want to recruit as many as I can so we can get a design, a layout, a solid idea for every inch of the map.


    I also would be taking suggestiong for naming said map, toughts I have come about are:

    Suburban Blood (Lame IMO.)

    Painful Community (Meh... I need help)

    Criteria I have thought of for this part of work that is naming is:
    • The name must be a sort of 'pun', yet not a 'bad pun', for the enviornment of the map.(Ex. No Mercy)
    • The name needs to not be obvious of what it is, yet gives the listener an idea of what it is. (EX. Dead air)
    • The name need to have a form of 'death', 'pain', or other zombie related words.


    Ideas like this I would like posted in this thread, as it is information that would not be harmful to us to have released to the public. Other information however, like the layout of the map, will not be released in public, and will only be released to a state that everyone is comfortable with releasing.

    A request to the TTP artists who can make awesome photoshop work, and other pieces of art, I challenge you to make a L4D style movie poster with your custom thought, name, or artwork in there. But the same theme needs to be held, a suburb where the houses are erriely similar that has been infested by zombies. I would like my 'phrase' to be kept, though:

    " Just another day... In hell... "

    However, you can make it artsy, or whereever you want it in your poster.
    Thank you, whomever participates, and if we get more than 3 people we will work it out through a poll.

    Now for you map-makers out there. Obviously this will be a 5 stage Beginning to finale, duh.

    Now this is where I become unstable on ideas, as for what exactly each of the 5 stages are going to be. In my ideas I have varied from a stroll to an outside forest, to a finale in a wal-mart varient called 'wal-store'.

    Of the maps, I have drawn out a rough sketch of the first map as I want it to be, but as it is a rough sketch it is still subject to change. I will not post this in public, but if I do recruit enough people to get this project rolling well, I will post it in separate forums, probably in another site if we can't get enough enthusiasm to start a private map-making board. But that is another matter.

    I already have my house map in the works.  I can get it in the process, anyway.

    I shall help!  Yes, I have been getting better at map making.  Second, don't worry about the name.  Spit out ideas, make the actual map, then make names.  Something is bound to spark up as people are working.

    Anyway, on to the actual map.  Yes, the SDK needs to come out first, but you can still make the basic design of it, I'm fairly sure.  I've did it with my house map anyway.  Second (sorta) I don't know anyone that knows how to make animations, unless by some weird event, Bunni knows how too.  Jakt, I also think,  knows how to make animations.

    That is my actual subdivision.  Of course, mine has a beach at the bottom and is the middle of the oceon, but that is besides the point.  You could make it in a old farming town, that still has houses and people, but has old houses and stores, not any of this track home bullshit.  It could then slowly transition into a forest, through a path, but once you are in, it get's block by falling tree's because the infected were waiting to ambush you, and knocked over the tree, at which a battle occurs.  This would stretch over the 5 maps though, of course.

    Just make it make a bunch of twists and turns.  I'd be happy to work on it though.

    Your pics look an aweful lot like smalltown (AKA Deathtoll). Remember this is a suburban theme, you know lots of similar houses and what not.

    The bottom is more the style I'm going for. (Actuly surprisingly there are 2 houses there that look like something I thought of. :2

    This is not meant to be rural or have many forests, maybe a brige-side journy but not much.

    I don't want to get down into much details, tell who you can to come to this thread and get more people together.

    What we need to get done right now are drawing up the intial map thoughts, Draw up sketchs for how this map might play out. But you must start from a room with 2 double beds and a barred window. Thats all I will say about that

    Well, that would go under my definition of track homes...

    That just seems too much like... other maps. There are other maps out actually, you know. A rural, but not actually rural, would be unique.

    Sounds great, as far as actual map design in the SDK, never tried it. I have an architecture background, I would be happy to sketch out levels and design buildings, props, concept art, etc.

    How is it like other maps at all

    No mercy is a city, dead air is a city, blood harvest is a forest, and death toll is a town. Death toll is the closest thing to this theme yet it is going through stores and buses, and other things, and the most you get to see of the houses are little more than a background behind you.

    I'm talking about going through the houses seeing what happened to peoples lives in this apocolypse. That is the question; How did people deal with the zombie apocolypse?

    Your idea is a good idea and worthy of merit, but the theme is not rural, not urban, but sub-urban. Houses, backyards, small backyard forests even if we can fit them in there.

    And considering a post-apocolyptic sub-urb, the house would be broken up, cars thrown everywhere, bombs bursting in air, and people going insane.

    We could probably fit something like your idea, maybe in the 3rd map? We will have to see. but I'd really rather not discuss ideas in this thread so critics don't get all over an unfinished thought.

    Well, this will be a lot harder... Basically you'll have to make every single house look, and to actually be fun, that might have to be about... 3? 4? - 7? 10?
    It also doesn't have to stay in a forest, but you're choice. I have deep hate on track homes...

    Not really.

    How often do you see the exact same zombie? It seems like you don't see an exact same model but there is actuly only a few different models of the zombies, so we could apply the same thing to the houses. While it may be bigger and more noticable really all we need to focus on are the houses directly in-front of the survivors.

    But at the same time making sure it is believeable.

    You'll see when we get this project going and I show you some other ideas. Tell people who like to do this stuff to come here.
